There's this sense of peace I have with this ending. I didn't grow up in a great family either, and Orel probably had to endure far more years of hardship before being able to leave. But the fact that he did, broke the cycle, and still held onto his faith makes me feel better about being in a toxic Christian family. I can leave that abuse and trauma behind and give love where I never got it.

Something I really loved about this show. Is that they didn't make fun of the religion itself, because it wasn't the problem, the people around it was! It doesn't criticize religion but those extremist worshipers who believe are pure and right but they are all rot inside It's just brilliant

You know, I still feel bad for Clay. Bloberta introduced him to alcohol, which consumed his life. He saw his mom die before his own eyes. Coach Stopframe had an affair with his wife, then manipulated him into a relationship with smooth talk and love letters. Clay seemed pretty happy in Bloberta's flashback.

The fact that Orel came from a family that couldn’t be more broken and dysfunctional yet still managed to make a happy family for himself is a surprisingly optimistic note to end this series on.

A couple of other things that are easy to miss. On the wall you can see pictures of Block and Shapey. Showing one's become a cop and the other a firefighter. Also, Orel isn't wearing a belt. Meaning he's not beating his children.

Somehow a 12 year old who was a crack addict, impregnated half the town by putting his seed in women while they slept, a masochist, killed two old ladies, beat up a entire town, got shot by his dad on a hunting trip then survive around 20 hours bleeding out in the wood, got beat every week by his dad, and had his family abusing him at every turn still turned out better than anyone in moralton. Diamond are forged by the hardest of pressures

I still come back to this from time to time. It brings Solemn comfort and a tear to my eye sometimes. It has its own type of joy. Orel just making it the best Christmas ever. It’s kinda funny back in S1 God did come through with the best Christmas ever. This Show was not something you could walk away from. Orel was character so developed and so powerful in his own way that makes him somehow unique and special like he was hand crafted from God. It saddens my heart that adult swim had a good thing going with this show and decided to leave it to die. At least it went out. I can feel the unfinished business and potential this show had. Seeing Orel packing up his equipment and toys, no words said his theme solemnly playing… I don’t know how to describe it but it’s something not from this world and real… and leaving block and shapey, the neglected children is just so beautiful.

We don't get to see any of Clay's teenage years, but if his childhood is any indicator, Bloberta didn't really affect much. Clay would've been a manipulative sociopath anyways.
