KZbin Review: Veronique as Celine Dion - A Roast, A Musical, A Canadian Masterpiece Veronique is Celine Dion. Not “trying to be,” not “inspired by”-SHE IS CELINE. It’s as if the universe folded in on itself and said, “What if we could have two Celines, but one with an even sharper sense of humor?” Veronique is so on point, even the real Celine would be sitting in the front row, clapping and crying into a bedazzled handkerchief. It’s a roast, it’s a musical, it’s therapy-but not the safe, soft kind. This is the kind that makes you laugh, cringe, and rethink your entire moral compass, all while belting out Celine’s top tunes. The cast? Oh, they’re on fire. We’re talking Canada Day fireworks in July level brilliance. They nail every single note, every joke, every eye-roll-worthy Canadian political jab (and trust me, there are plenty). You think you know snowflake culture? You don’t-until you’ve seen them roast it alive like marshmallows at a campfire of “cancel culture” chaos. And let’s talk about the monstrosity of a mother, Ruth-no, not the typical Disney Queen Mother, but the evil, diabolical, woke-as-a-narc queen of this story. She’s the perfect caricature of every overly performative moral guardian pushing her personal agenda wherever she can. The sheer audacity of her character? Chef’s kiss. First there was Karen and now we have Ruth. I hope you’ve got thick skin, because they’re serving up social commentary that's sharper than a Hab’s forward on a breakaway-it cuts deep, and you’ll love every second of it. Warning: this is NOT for kids or the faint of heart-think of it as CrossFit for your sense of humor. Top 3 musicals of all time, hands down-go see it, laugh your face off, and maybe don’t bring Grandma unless she’s a fan of Sue Johanson’s therapy work. Bravo, Veronique and cast-you’ve officially put me in the best mood and set the tone for pushing boundaries for 2025!

So many shows are written about people who will never get to see them. This show hit the ground in 2007, and it may have taken a few years to get widespread, but for once in a rare while, people got to see how the world would remember them. That's so touching.

Is it just me noticing how blatently racist this is ? there is not a single white person in that whole cast like you complain "beetljuice is racist cause It didn't have a black person" so then why isn't this musical racist ? not a single white member of the cast , I assume it wouldn't be a terrible watch but the just blatent racism is appauling if its racist if there is no black people then its racist if there is no white people

I gotta be honest,, I'm not sure what all these people are talking about but this show lion king in princess of whales theater was BEYOND disappointing ,, I seen high-school productions with better quality and more polish,,, total joke,,, the sets the transitions the music,,, all sub par,,, I seen sleeping beauty in Europe and that was mind blowing,,, it looked like magic and with a full orchestra,,, mirvish lion king had a dj loll,,, anyways to each their own but for anyone with even a slightly discerning taste do not be fooled by the reviews ,, you are in for a sad disappointment,,, I hope this helps or just learn the hard way like I did
@mirvishproductionsАй бұрын
@@youtubisashoe Thank you for your honesty. We’re not sure what you’re talking about either, but that’s at least partially due to your creative use of commas. Although we disagree with your assessment of the show, it is refreshing to hear a take from someone other than seasoned critics who see hundreds of professional shows a year. Hearing the perspective of someone who has seen multiple high school shows, and who saw Sleeping Beauty (in Europe!) is certainly enlightening. Just one note, The Lion King does have live musicians. You probably didn’t see them because they are below the stage in the pit. This is actually a very common set up in most theatres.

I haven't been in the 'Pantages" since The Producers showed there well over a decade ago. During that performance I was so happy to see that the interiors still gleamed from the 1989 restoration when the facility was prepared to house the Canadian Production of The Phantom of the Opera. However, last night I attended Mamma Mia and upon entering the lobby (and then the theatre itself) my mouth dropped! It was HORRIBLE! What was once a bright and regal complex, willed with blue, beige and gold, was now a DARK, dismal, and depressing looking space. The DARK "puke coloured" walls made the interior feel like some creepy old basement rather than one of Toronto's top theatres. Also, the GORGEOUS 6 box seats which flanked both sides of the stage were "gone"; Covered by very cheap looking fakes ..... Whoever gave the go ahead for this should be persecuted for public vandalism. When I showed my niece's bf a picture of how the theatre used to look, he was dumbfounded! "Why did they do this?" .... AWFUL!

Why would you assume they are "making fun" of Celine's accent or voice? A Quebec performer who has long admired Celine is playing her in this show and has a French Canadian accent, as Celine does. Should Celine in the show not have the accent she has in real life? The show has fun with Titanic, the movie.
