@capriracer351 Just watched your shredder video, and am troubleshooting the same one. I'm trying to verify if R32 should be populated, as mine is missing. I know its a long shot, on a 9 year old video, but taking a chance in case you are watching comments. Great content!

@@craigcorbin4098 My son works at the corporate offices of a major bank. They were updating their shredders several years ago and I ended up with one of their old ones. It is huge and can shred 8 pages at a time. So unfortunately the shredder I repaired in that video is long gone.

Beautiful clean build. It looks very professional. Good thing you are keeping extra parts on hand in case in the future all that is available are Chinesium parts.

Have to make do with what you have. Limited ceiling space on the other side of the basement due to the furnace piping. Too expensive to heat my garage in the winter, so this is where I work in the winter. Not optimal, but it is what it is.

I’m about to build this up… Any regrets about using digital meters ? I had planned using dial meters, easier to see or not do you think ?
@capriracer351
@capriracer351 10 ай бұрын
The thing about analog meters is their input impedance is typically low. This circuit is highly current limited. So I was concerned that the analog meters might load the circuit down too much. The original intention of this from the AWA was to connect your digital multimeter to it for the voltage and current reading. The input impedance of those DMM's is usually 10 megohms. If you search through xraytonyb's videos, he built one of these as well. He used an op amp buffer to raise the input impedance so that the analog meter did not affect the measurement. That may be the correct way to use the analog meter.

@@raybecson9374 I bought these over a year ago, so the specifications are not fresh in my mind, but I think they were 10 megohm input impedance, so they didn't need any buffering.

Hi. I have one GFA 5300 and it still works well. It is very sensitive to the quality of the preamp and cables. A good result is the use of a tube preamp, or at least a buffer such as the Musical Fidelity X10. Tube sound transforms an ADCOM GFA 5300 audio system and does not require any additional EQ, but good quality cables should still be used. If you're like rock music, the old Monster Cable M1500 (interconnect and speaker cables ) work really well with this amp.
@capriracer351
@capriracer351 Жыл бұрын
After I ran it for quite a while, it sounded a lot better. I think that the Yamaha preamp might have sat on a shelf for a very long time and the electrolytics needed to reform again. The amp sounded very tinny originally, but after a few hours of use sounded very good. I'm thinking about tracking down another on eBay that needs repaired to fix and put out in the garage.
@ryanfuller5
@ryanfuller5 Жыл бұрын
The C-50's EQ can be a bit tricky because it is parametric. It can absolutely put out plenty of bass, but you have to select in the 50ish Hz range and make it wide, then level it up.
@capriracer351
@capriracer351 Жыл бұрын
It did improve after I ran the system for several hours. I don't think that either piece of equipment had been used for a long time. Most likely the preamp needed the capacitors to reform. I don't believe I changed any of them like I did in the power amp. I'll try to change the settings as you suggested and see if there is an improvement.

I have a C-50 where the right channels output puts my amplifier into protect mode. I noticed you said you made adjustments to the outputs, unfortunately you did not show that in this video. Is this something you can measure using a DVM/DMM or do you need an oscope to measure the voltage? I have the same service manual you showed, and I see there are test points... just curious if this can even be measured without a scope. Also, can you tell me the difference in the adjustment types?
@capriracer351
@capriracer351 Жыл бұрын
All that you need is a multimeter that is sensitive in the DC millivolts range. Just do each adjustment in order as it is listed in the service manual. This will equalize the outputs. The potentiometers are very sensitive though, so be careful. You do not want the adjustment to go way out of range.

Thank you for the offer. I sold that and several other pieces of test equipment summer of 2018 since I had to have surgery on a torn rotator cuff. I knew I would miss a minimum of 3 months of work, so I was selling anything that I did not use on a daily basis as extra money. I wouldn't mind having another and have an active eBay search for one, but most that show up are for way more money than I am willing to spend for one. I disabled comments on all but my most recent videos when I came home from work and found that some idiot had made crude comments on all of my videos. He took offense to the fact that I threatened a pervert clear back in 2008 when he was making very suggestive comments about my kids that were in videos back then. The videos that I DO allow comments on must be pre-approved. Unfortunately, KZbin's notification system is broken, therefore I did not see your comment until 2 weeks after you made it.

I stopped using that tool bag a few years ago. It is still in my garage somewhere, but I found that for as many times I need to move from job to job in a day, it became a bit of a pain to unzip and zip the sides many multiple times per day. The one I have now is an open top design so I don't have to do that. I've had several people ask me about this bag the past couple years, so maybe I should do a short final video on it.

It is still in the garage covered with dirt. I have started to have quite a few health problems the past 3 or 4 years, so I may not do anymore racing. Not the slightest bit happy about that, but the money I spend racing, I might need in the future. Not fair to my wife, who is not going to be able to make anywhere near as much money as I do, if I either can't work anymore or end up not alive in the next few years to be spending thousands of dollars per year racing. I've done the electronics thing since I was pretty young also and in fact electronics is a part of how I make my living. I spend less money per year with the electronics hobby than I did with about 2 weeks of racing. It is not the same and I would much rather be racing, but sometimes you can't always have what you want.
