Hey Graham, yes that one slipped through the net, lol. I could upload a new video but that gets a new link, and we lose our stats, or we have a duplicate just for the title sequence. Anyway, hope the content helps.

With your hand position allow the lady to have her wrist straight and the man has a 90 degree bend.
@longstepsdancingАй бұрын
I'm going to have to disagree with you there Peter. In a Ballroom Tango hold the followers wrist is no longer straight as the seat of the hold is lower, and the angle of movement from the leaders elbow to wrist more parallel with the floor. Also, a 90 degree bend is far too prescriptive and often pushes the elbow behind the line of the shoulder, which is a big no no.

Hi Betty, You're welcome, we're very busy in the studio at the moment, so we've not been releasing as many videos as usual, but that will change after medals at the end of this month and then we'll get to the rest of the Blitzes and Walkthroughs on the to-do lists!
@MrAabbccddeeffgg3 ай бұрын
I have been struggling for weeks now to find an answer to: "What actually is the "weave" part of the various weave figures that makes them a weave?". Your video has answered what no dancer or teacher has been able to express - it's four steps - man going backwards (L-R) with lady OP then man going forwards (L-R) with himself OP. SIMPLE ... Thank you.

That's very kind to hear, we're glad it helped. We've been away from KZbin for a little while as it's a busy time of year, we'll be back to the Blitzes and Walkthroughs after medals at the end of the month, perhaps we'll have a few more little gems for you! Keep dancing!

Thanks for posting this dance, I curve the first three steps just as you have done as it makes the next steps easier.
@longstepsdancing3 ай бұрын
Hey Peter, certainly the leftwards curve to the Tango Walk is required, and it does make the next section easier. If you dance it too straight you're not in the correct position nor have the correct momentum to do the Reverse Turn correctly.

Brilliantly simple. Not on the syllabus, but at this stage on my dance journey, this is a very useful tool to keep things moving once I've got myself into a "floor craft situation!"
@longstepsdancing3 ай бұрын
Our thought is the same, and some of the easiest moves for the social floor are not typically taught if they are not in the studio syllabus. Some of the hardest moves to master are those moves that are not used often, and have a specific use - all the ones you need in those "floor craft situations" you mentioned! Good luck, glad you found it useful.

Hi, I enjoyed all your walkthroughs. They are very comprehensive and helpful to my learning of sequence dancing. I wonder if you could produce a walkthrough video on Clearwater Waltz that I am learning now. Your professional guidance would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Betty
@longstepsdancing3 ай бұрын
Hi Betty, Thanks, we're glad you enjoyed it. We've got a few on the list already, we'll certainly look into the Clearwater Waltz. It's not one we do regularly, so we'll need to find a script to research before we dance through it. We've also got the Starlight Waltz (a Long-Steps regular) and the Opus 5 Waltz (another special request) in the works.

Nice flowing routine its the natural rop ive been having probs with Hey how about doing a forward and backward 3 cha chas chas the one with touching hands ? Just an idea
@longstepsdancing4 ай бұрын
Great suggestion, we'll put the 3 Cha Cha Cha's on the list, specifically the Pata Cake hand work... We have blitz Three Cha Cha Cha's here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIK8dWpnnpd2j8k but I don't recall doing the Pata Cake hand work, so we can add that as an upgrade. The natural top can be tricky with the timing, we find in Cha Cha it takes a while to get the 4&1 in the top, and in Rumba it takes a while for the 4-1 to settle. The most common mistake is dancers give all the steps even counts, and then get out of time. Good luck, and let us know how you go!
@davidmiller40784 ай бұрын
Theres so many differant steps in jive and all the differant styles would you recomend learning one step at a time or learning a short sequence ?
@longstepsdancing4 ай бұрын
That's interesting, there aren't any more steps in Jive than most of the other dances, but because of the tempo of Jive, you dance through them faster, and so leaders are constantly needing to select figures. If you compare how many figures you dance in 90 seconds of Jive compared to 90 seconds of Rumba, you'll see what I mean. When it comes to figures vs. routines, there's no simple answer I'm afraid. It is, in my opinion, dependant on the dancers involved and why they dance. Some studios will exclusively teach routines to beginners, while others like ours take a mixed approach to figures and routines. Some leaders suffer from choice anxiety and simply cannot lead figures fast enough in something like a Jive, so learning just figures with no choreography is very hard for them. In this case, learning a simple routine is often easier, until they can develop their leading. The danger of this is that routines often become embedded and then dancers actually aren't leading and following they are just doing the same old steps they have done before, and this can turn into sloppy leading and following technique that is actually harder to remedy when dancers are ready to upgrade their routines and figures. It also causes problems when you don't have room or otherwise can't get your routine out on the floor... what do you do, just stop dancing and start again? That's never a nice feeling. My usual recommendation (in the dark knowing nothing about the dancers) is the learn a small amount of interchangeable figures, only 4 maybe 5 different moves that will all precede and follow each other, and then start by doing each move in succession 2 times each, so: Step 1 x2, Step 2 x2, Step 3 x2 etc... and then slowly but surely learn to do them in a different order, and don't tell the follower what that order is. This gives you the ground work for developing your leading and following, and keeps the dance fresh and fun on the dancefloor.

It looks so simple but also very elegant

Open finishes in Tango, and the Open Promenade figure, are such a boon to your Tangoing. With practice it allows the dancers to really dance to the music and provide light and shade of movement and avoid the too-staccato Tangos that can sometimes develop when dancers rely too much on stopping between figures.
@davidmiller40784 ай бұрын
Lovely very similar to jive s drunken salor but differant rythm ? Lol
@longstepsdancing4 ай бұрын
That's an interesting observation, and you're kinda right. The Drunken Sailors in Jive are taken from (or based on) Bota Fogos in Samba. It's a classic case of figure stealing. The 1a2 in the Samba and QaQ of the Jive makes it an easy transition, much easier than converting Jive or Samba moves in to Cha Cha for example. However, Drunken Sailors in Jive are not very "leadable" and they don't have a universal definition of what they actually are. Many dancers will dance some variation of "Back-Replace" and then a Bota Fogo followed by a variation of "Back-Replace" and then another Bota Fogo. This gives the entire "Drunken Sailor" a step count of 10 and ensures the Bota Fogo part of the figure is replicated on each foot. But this is not the only way the figure can be danced, and it's in no way leadable without prior choreography. Actual Samba Bota Fogos on the other hand are entirely leadable, and can be performed in many ways and in many different holds. The travelling Bota Fogos are often thought of by theory buffs as the most basic (because of the closed hold), but they often aren't the ones first taught to students, because the backward Bota Fogo is more challenging.

Hi Marguerite I watched the Opus 5 walkthrough, you're correct it is attributed to Russ Hesketh. It looks like a lovely dance, thought my personal preference at that speed would be to remove the shadow sections and just dance it like a Modern Waltz, but that's just me. With the exception of the shadow sections those figures and mini-sequences would be quite pretty when used in a Modern Waltz. Though certainly not a beginner dance, and I would expect not a sequence New Vogue dancers would find easy to dance without some measure of Modern Ballroom experience too. Thank you for sharing.

It is easy to use, and from the little testing we've done so far it seems very responsive. For more complex shots and if you're using multiple cameras (up to 3) it will take some thoughtful set up and then some practice too, but that's like anything. A larger screen is an advantage, I really noticed a difference in usability between my phone and my tablet.
