Doesn’t seem like the aluminum would have sustain ,clarity and punch steel would have. What do you think?

I liked the kms sound unplugged better but the gotoh sounded better with gain.

I'm trying to build a super light weight stratocaster (spruce quarter sawn neck, paulownia body), I think the tone difference is nothing that my eq pedal can't balance out.
@cpk3138 ай бұрын
I just did this and I have a few observations. I put a Kluson aluminum block on a gotoh ge101ts relic which comes with a full sized steel block. The good was that the guitar lost 6oz and I had no sustain issues, it sustained great. The bad was it gave the top end a 'ice pick' nature that it had no hint of prior. So after a week or so I went back to the steel block. I gave the mating surface a touch with a green scotch bright pad and made sure it was snuggly fit, in hindsight I'm not sure if it was completely tightened down originally as I wasn't the builder.

you are not using simplifier dlx anymore?
@fabifaszanatas66616 ай бұрын
Hi. Honestly I switch quite often and try to find what works best for me. I tried Kemper, Strymon Iridium, UA Woodrow, Simplifier - some stayed for months and others for years. Currently I'm using a Fractal FM3 which does great Marshall models in my opinion. However I wonder how newer products like the UA Lion 68 and Friedman IR-X sound. :D
@alexandercabrera558910 ай бұрын
hello!!!How can I equalize the simplifier dlx for a neoclassical sound, with a Dod 250 pre amp, thank you!!!!
@fabifaszanatas66616 ай бұрын
Sorry I'm afraid I can't help you with that. I have switched to a Fractal FM3 and don't have the simplifier in front of me anymore. Good Luck!!

serious comparison but go and do it

I would have though steel to be the fuller, thicker and more organic sounding and the aluminum to Sound thin and brittle, but it ended up being the exact opposite in almost every example you played. I’m intrigued by the aluminum. Now I get to spend tonight debating on whether I’m $35 intrigued

Great job. I love the version by Steve Stine here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGTClH5nrb1srJY&ab_channel=SteveStineGuitarLessons Have a listen. You should pick up a few tips from him- but you added a few nice fills that sounded great. I would stay Steve is a bit smoother and adds a few important notes and details...but you are very close and still great. 3:45 what is that? Free play? Is that Whitesnake riff part of the original- Steve does it too- thought he was just goofing around. Guess not. 5:05 a little James Bond? LOL. 5:18 riff is off. Some really nice runs towards the end there- Ozzy? Overall- great job.
@fabifaszanatas66616 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment!! And sorry for this extremely late reply. Yes, that 5:18 riff... still can't do it right :D James Bond was the intention at 5:05. The runs at the end are just some random mixolydian scale runs. I felt quite funny at 3:45 ... it's "Tequila" from The Champs.

Your tone and playing is very close indeed, impressive! I wonder if your V60LP's and you, could try the same kind of tone matching with Scott Henderson blues album the tore down house (he says he used exactly the same PUs in a very standard strat). I'd be curious to hear it and I'm also a kemper user, so if it works well don't hesitate to share the rig 😂

KMS better with more open mids and more high chime. Gotoh sounded good, but KMS gives wider tonal palette. In my ears.
@fabifaszanatas6661 Жыл бұрын
I agree, the Gotoh doesn't sound bad at all. I like the added highs from the KMS, though I would tweak the low pass filter of the mic pre amp a little different if it wasn't for the comparison. The sound has been dialed in with the Gotoh bridge. The KMS works great in a live mix.
@BigRiffsRigs Жыл бұрын

@Felipe-pb9gu Жыл бұрын
Unplugged the KMS sounds more open and resonant, did you get the zamac or brass version? Wich one do you prefer?
@hermannmaier0 Жыл бұрын
I think he got zamak (see info bar with zink alloy blank mention)
@fabifaszanatas6661 Жыл бұрын
It's zamak. I was surprised about the big difference of the unplugged tones. After this little experiment I started to think about changing the bridges in my other guitars as well. I wouldn't say the Gotoh bridge sounds bad. So far the KMS works great and cuts a little better in a live environment. The guitar works much better with darker amps now. No regrets :)

+ the option to cut the saddle slots and tweak your string spacing is awesome. Didn't assume I would like that this much. Now string spacing is perfect - great for my slight OCD ;)

Nailed it...! Is it just the simplifier or is there an overdrive/distortion pedal looped?
@fabifaszanatas6661 Жыл бұрын
Thank you :) I did use some overdrive pedals. The respective signal path for the tones is shown for a few seconds in the beginning of every part. I used the Keeley D&M Drive and my old Boss OS-2. The sound, small footprint and price of the simplifier is hard to beat.

Steel sounds better. Now I wonder how brass compares. Some of the comparisons aluminum sounds flat. But this is A/B of course. Stand alone aluminum sounds goods if weight reduction is more important.
@landocalrissian5180 Жыл бұрын
Steel sounds like it has more overtones and tighter low end

That's what I perceive as well. I really like the clearer bass response.

Thanks for this! For the AC/DC sound are you using the MS Brit on lead crunch or clean? And are uou using a drive in front? Would be great if you can put all settings in the description 👍
@fabifaszanatas6661 Жыл бұрын
Hi, at 0:43 you can see the pedal board settings that were used at that part (compression is on and in front, no drive pedal). At 0:45 there is a close up for the simplifier settings. It looks like the crunch mode. Additionally I used DAW Plugins like Vintage Tube EQs to shape the sound further to my liking. And I double tracked this guitar part.

Fantastic tones. When you kick on the EQ at 2:50, the tone got nice as chewy. Care to share the eq profile? Sounds like you're cutting some highs, maybe boosting the mids? I'd love to get that tone with my Woodrow.
@fabifaszanatas6661 Жыл бұрын
Hi, at that moment I am actually turning the EQ off. You are hearing the "normal" Woodrow sound. I use the EQ to thin out the thickness (reduce some lower mid frequencies, push some highs slightly). This way I can use whatever the mix requires - thin or thick tone.
