It took me three tries, so try, try, again bro. I did car camp at that lower "camp here" spot in your vid (which is the Queens Mine) and that adds some gain and milage from the "official" trailhead. So it was a 7am to 7pm hike. I was lucky with the weather, lucky with meeting some other hikers on the trail and we all determined to do it together. You were pretty close. BTW the Trail Canyon road can be shit depending on recent storms and it is long and hectic. And more scree that way.

There aren't any maintained trails up to the top of Boundary Peak. What you walked on are called "user trails" which are established by a lot of people walking in the same place, over and over. This includes the trails from each trailhead, both Queen's Canyon and Trail Canyon up to the saddle. Thus they have never been constructed as trails, with all the specifications of a constructed trail. Most peak climbing involves no trails at all, either constructed or user trails. Popular peaks tend to have user trails because of the amount of traffic on the peak. State high points are always popular peaks. There are constructed and maintained trails going up to the high points in California (Mt. Whitney), Arizona (Mt. Humphrey) and New Mexico (Wheeler Peak). Utah has a trail that is close to the summit of Kings Peak, but there is about 2 miles of boulder hopping. Those are the high points I'm familiar with. Wyoming, Idaho and Montana are more technical so there are no trails. Given the rock and soil conditions, along with steep slopes, construction of a trail up to Boundary would be extremely difficult, if not impossible to do.
@gottago1052 Жыл бұрын
FYI ...That was not the summit you pointed at!
@wannabetowasabe Жыл бұрын
Yes, once you are on that "summit" you realize it is a false summit and unless you realize that going up, you are in for a major disappointment. A topo map of the area is suggested as is the case with any hiking endeavor. It is one of the "Ten Essentials" of hiking.

The Trail Canyon trailhead is MUCH easier to get to. Yes, it is further. But I easily made it in an Accord. You aren’t going to get to Queen Mine in a million years in anything that is not a high clearance 4x4. And I’m the kind of person who scoffs at the idea that a 4x4 is a necessity on many unpaved roads.

I’m doing this trail with 3 friends end of September. We will be to the park around 1pm and are planning on staying at Lodgepole, but think it might be doable to make it to this spot. Any thoughts? Thanks for the video!
@jasonwondersoutdoors3702 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I definitely think you could make it to this spot, it was a little too short of a day for me & I had hours to myself. I could’ve gone further up trail for sure but as for your plans, that may/may not be open? Either way, this is definitely a very doable campsite IMO. While it’s a pain to get up to & also get water, it’s nice to have a site all to yourselves, so pros & cons. But I think you’ll be good. Hope you have a great time & safe travels!

I understand your disappointment and feelings. I made it all the way from Campo to Rainy Pass before I was stopped just 60 miles from the border due to a wildfire. Nothing is guaranteed on this trail is it? 1,165 miles is a huge accomplishment. If it any consolation I rolled my ankle just two miles out of Campo on a completely level and even section of trail. It just happens sometime.

Just recently got the Nemo Dagger OSMO 2p tent. From my understanding this new version fly makes it where it doesn't slag and stretch according to the makers. Right now it is going for 530 dollars but it does include more things. Normally the biggest con I keep seeing from this tent is the weight than the number of stakes. I normally pack some extra stakes just in case as sometimes things can happen.
@jasonwondersoutdoors3702 Жыл бұрын
I can empathize on the stakes. I’ve seen good things about the OSMO. Hope it works out well for you!

Sorry to hear this. My marathon days taught me valuable lessons about mileage. In one mileage ramp I developed a stress fracture (the same exact bone) and trained through it. It actually healed after the pain provoked me to place an insert into the shoe for a few weeks. If I didn’t act on the pain it would have fractured like yours. I have tight rules on mileage ramps especially considering I am older now: At two months, the risk of injury is insane.

I got good warmth even on "Blue" setting, but battery pack has failed, (one month) they won't stay on as stated in instructions. Company not responsive.
@kimbarton3222 Жыл бұрын
The first battery I got didn't work at all, so they replaced it. This one works, but doesn't hold a charge very long. I regret buying this, but will still pull it out and try to use it sometimes just to get something out of the price. It's nice for a few minutes, but now I have a portable power station for car camping, and a 12v car blanket that plugs into it and that's what I use. Both together were cheaper than this thing.
