After posting my comments and now after reading mostly all comments on here the real clear winner is the philippines which is what I said in my original post.

First off You favor Thailand. 2nd the currency exchange in the Philippines is way more than thailand. You are right about more crime in just one city in the US. I believe more crime in Thailand than philippines. Been to both places several times while serving in the military. You can have duel citizenship there and the US. If you retire in Thailand you need to put $15,000.00 us dollars in a Thailand Bank. You can use some of that money to build your own home. Same thing for philippines only difference is you only need to put $10,000.00 in philippine bank. This way you don't need to worry about renewal of your visa or traveling x amount of miles from that country and waiting a period of time so you can go back. You can rent a two story house with house maids outside of the big city of manila for about 2 to 3 hundred US dollars a month. Filipina is way more loving and trust worthy vs thai girl. Thai girl looks at only one thing your money. Tourist in Thailand are looked at as ATM Machines period. The culture of thailand is the women do the work and bring in the money. Filipina is loyal and way way more trusting. Myself thai food is much to spicy for me. In the end it boils down to the individual, how much money they have. Weather or not there just visiting or retiring and the type of visa they get. Had a blast in both places and to be honest it's actually a hard choice. For me I value trust and honestly and getting more for my dollar. Also philippines has some of the best doctors. One last thing in Thailand if you marry a thai girl you just don't marry her you have to take in the whole family slowly one by one until all family members eventually are in your home before you know it.

I lived in a Asian country for 8 years. I was set up by a gang to get robbed because I was a foreigner. I had a couple of fights on my belt in the USA but you were never guaranteed to win every fight. I was humble. Show my wallet that I didn't have any money. I had no smart phone. I was riding a scooter with smoke blasting on the back. The gang leader saw that I was more broke than them. He told me what they were going to rob me, but saw my situation is worse than them. They end up buying me a couple of beers.

Ummm, why not tell people about many scams in TH, when about 7 out of 10 girls in many places take foreigners for the ATMs? Sure, you have to agree on the price with tuk-tuk driver in TH, but the majority of bars/clubs in TH will try to overcharge you unless you count your drinks, and tourist zones are THE WORST. I mean, do you come to bar to have fun or to count your drinks, really? Also, let's not forget about robbers who pick on drunk farangs and thieves who pick your pockets if you're unaware in TH. LOL. Mistrusted is the best word to describe many people in TH tourist zones who lie in your face with a smile while looking for the way to get your money in any way possible! And who said that drugs being illegal is a bad thing? Imho, it only makes girls at PH more attractive because they're less often high overall, no? I know first hand that street girls in TH are inadequate because they can't even get the job at the bar for their insanity, drug abuse, and so on. Food, of course, is a matter of preference but it's clear that author has an unconscious bias against PH, bending his "analysis" to achieve a desired result. Say, you tell me PH is underdeveloped? I'd tell it's good for your buck and investments. Similarly, other things could be bent into a desired direction when one has a choice to live in either country or in US, CA, or EU. Author lived in CA, and then got charmed with PH, promoting it as a good place to retire. Woah?! How many retirees in each country did you interviewed because you don't look that old! I don't prefer one county over another because they have very own flavor and could serve for certain purposes just the way they are. Now, saying one is better that the other seems absurd.
