Yeah, the ref stopped it one time when kolat was about to get pinned the other times when he was about to give up to a takedown. Refs need to stop sticking their nose into the match, potentially dangerous my a$$.

This match was definitely before it's time. Steiner hitting that body fold when kolat was in on a single leg didn't hit mainstream popularity until about 15 years ago.

I always think about Kolat when I hear stupid people talking about "reach advantage". Guy probably never had a reach advantage in his entire career.

I feel bad for Troy Steiner having to suck down to 134lb.... Nowadays they rules would prevent him from doing that, and rightly so.

So that shows you the 2019 rules are a bust! Even today they showed how in a Finals match, the rules put a wrestler out of the possibility of a title pursuit. The Danger rule is ridiculous and so ambiguous. It puts the power to determine the result of a match in the refs hands, which is not good for the sport at all....

Normally I’m a Hawkeye fan, but I’m honestly kind of mad. Lightner had a chance to beat one of the best Hawkeye wrestlers ever in the history of Iowa, and he just gives up in the end. You could say it’s because Ironside kept coming and he outconditioned him, well he couldn’t have outconditioned him much because Lightner got a takedown seconds away from Ironsides winning takedown. Maybe I’m just being a cry baby, but I just felt Lighter gave up in the end

I should have been wrestling one of these guys. I wish it was Steiner, because Kolat was a beast! But I almost beat a PA state champ in high school when I had a broken ear drum and no balance (lost 5-2 in the semis). NYS wrestling and PA are the best in the country, hands down! I went to Franklin & Marshall - D1 Wrestling and high academics!

NY?! Great state for the sport but cmon. Penn, Jersey, Ohio, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arizona, and California to me are the countries top states... Im sure I left a couple out....To me these are the states who typically pump out the most top teir talent. The midwest states are on another level it seems

steiner robbed of td/s, had kolat pinned when they called potentially dangerous, and at least one stall call on bottom, all change the match completely ....hate when refs put themselves in the matches..2nd td was legit and ref called it right when steiner was turning the corner...

agreed, I think kolat was amazing and seems like a great coach and motivator but as great as he was he definitely used everything to his advantage. The constant headgear issues-which after the 1st time coming off he should’ve been hit for stalling everytime afterwards including whenever he would unsnap it himself to adjust it. I know it was different then but something similar with today’s wrestling is when kids have mouth pieces that constantly come out- it’s gotten to the point that now after the 1st time I hit them with stalling b/c it’s being used as a quick breather

In todays scoring Kolat actually dominated, 11-4 and as far as the "scoring" ops, no way those in todays wrestling would have been stale mated anyways. The stalling call for a point was bs too.
