They'll always be his boys, he does voice Luigi in Smash 64 and Melee. It's just Mario's voice just in a higher pitch. It doesn't surprise me that they are twins.

In my personal opinion, Charles left the role of Mario because he was eclipsed by the studio’s desire to have a celebrity in the role he played for 30+ years. They didn’t even give him a fair chance in the movie about the character he played for so long, leaving him the cameo roles and side character scraps. Any man would be disheartened enough to walk away from the role after that, and Charles said he wanted to voice Mario for “as long as he lives”.

No, he didn't actually say that. He said he'd do the role until he dropped dead and THEN added the caveat that if there came a day where he was no longer able to do it, he'd let Nintendo know so they could find a replacement. Given that he's nearly 70 and has himself admitted that his voice is giving out (even said that voicing Wario has become more challenging now), they would have had to have replaced him at some point later on down the line. If you want evidence of this, go play Luigi's Mansion 3, where his voice, especially his Luigi voice, sounds especially aged. It's blindingly obvious that they intended to franchise the Mario movie as a series. Why would they cast the guy who's clearly on his way out… only to have him replaced in the second movie? That would have been an even WORSE decision. The best choice was to simply rip off the band-aid now while things were still good, rather than have him be forced out due to his voice completely giving out, or worse, him dying mid-project.

I only just made the connection that the guy playing on the Donkey Kong arcade game is Jump Man, which canonically means that Mario and Jump Man from the original arcade game are two separate characters.

I will never for the life of me understand the plot point of their big dream being looked down on by everyone...when that dream is being plumbers, a very realistic, practical, and almost anti-lofty career choice by most peoples standards. Like they aren't exactly trying to be movie stars or presidents here, their family is just being unnessicarily cruel for what is an average and very reasonable aspiration.

My dad and I loved this movie to sin. He loved Jack's portrayal as Bowser, DK's little nod to the DK RAP, and of course the references sprinkled everywhere. I miss you, dad.
