I like this director. Nope, not gonna slow this down.

Very nice piece! John Dilkey was my junior high school band director (1972 - 73) and was my high school jazz ensemble director (1973 - 77) , as well (in Mooresville, IN). He wrote alot of original material for the jazz ensemble in which he and I played duets (he on trombone and me on tenor sax/flute) in some of the bop pieces. He taught me everything about music theory and jazz arranging. He passed away in 2010 and is missed so much.

Any suggestions on program notes for this piece? Featuring it on a recital and can't find much on it.

I can't believe there aren't any comments on this! I am working on this piece for an upcoming (clarinet) audition. I'm not a huge fan of the saxophone, but your tone is incredible! Nice job!

Lead trumpet needs to learn to use his air instead of lips for those high notes. Watch Dave Stahl when he played this when he was with Buddy. He uses a lot of diaphragm when he aimed high. You can see it. It just needs that double high C# at the end too...
