This has actually been a huge help, thank you! I'm currently working on a friend's bike with this style of hub and it is in need of serious work. The shift pin is actually going too far into the hub and it's not shifting correctly, so I'm going to have to try and re-oil it! Here's hoping this works.

If people aren't willing to think about what you're saying and at least some of the time make thoughtful remarks back, then chasing them for viewership, like with short clip videos, would be a folly. I agree about the natural spaces of course. I hate to see the constant and mindless housing development here. This one place they were putting up about 1.5 miles away as "luxury apartments" of some kind got halfway finished, then they found something out of whack with it, let it sit for six months, then started demolishing it. So it's been a mess there for a long while. I'd like to hear more about the bike trails around there or just cool places to be on a bike there. I had a great long ride this morning up and down the hills on my road bike. It was super weather starting out in the nice cool time before six am.

Actually , if you bike in that area again , beside the bike path between Wateringen and the hamlet of T' Woudt there is a spot where on poles the original height of the land in the area in Roman time and the Middle Ages is shown, The Netherlands had mayor floods due to the land ending up BELOW sea level due to overdrainage of the peat based soil , that's why it is called 'Reclaimed land ' and not 'claimed land" or 'new land ' The original land was soggy; but mostly not swamp land .. big areas got lost in the early middle ages , both due to overdrainage but later also overharvesting of peat for turf , which created lakes which got bigger due to erosion of their edges ... So the Dutch did not create their country, they had to fix up what they ruined by bad water-management 😉

Regretfully it has been closed now due to worn out escalators and elevators, was planned for refit in 2030 but they might pull that forward .. there is an alternative connection in the same system but without elevators and quite a heavy incline , originally used for mopeds .. The Heinenoord tunnel ( actually under the Oude Maas , so the OLD instead of NEW Meuse ) has a system with only , bigger, elevators .. and the Maastunnel in Rotterdam has an antique escalator and a newer elevator system. Those three are all way preferable over the Kill tunnel as they have completely separate tunnels for the bikes , while the last has a bike path beside the cars .. a attack on the lungs, especially on a busy day ..

Hello, it's Alan from Maidstone. I'm just back from a hard ride on the North Downs. I've recently bought a Specialized Allez which is my first road bike in decades of riding hybrid bicycles. At 68 I think I'm lucky to be able to do this. I'm looking forward to your workshop videos

Alan, I didn't have a road bike for a long time either. Decades as well. It changed the whole picture for me starting last summer. Brings out my best including for condition at 60. Even compared to myself at 18 or 20. But my hybrid is very useful to me also.

You do not see these bicycles a lot anymore in The Netherlands. It sure is a Dutch model, perhaps you can go get your shopping doing with it. Now you see more e-bikes then this older model. Nice vlog, tnx.

Foreign debit cards You can also use a foreign contactless debit or credit card from Maestro, V PAY, Mastercard or Visa. Do you have a card from a foreign bank and are you unsure whether your card can be used? Then contact your bank or credit card provider.

Hopefully my wife doesn’t see this. I’ve got one bike that normally sits on a home trainer under the verandah and one mountain bike that sort of sits outside the back door. She says that I’ve “always got bikes lying around”. I think this is what she might have in mind.

As a Dutch bike mechanic I remember the first time I saw this bike in the shop and I wondered where it came from. It looks Dutch but different, the frame is shorter rims different and the angles of the frame resulting in a stiffer but more understeary combination. Nice to see them again.

You can find are several of these hand powered bicycle ferry in the west and north of The Netherlands. They are pretty self explanatory, so it's not a problem if you can't read the language. The only thing that can go wrong is when someone (usually a child) cranks out the trailing chain at the back, instead of letting it run out by itself, because then the chain can bunch up inside its cabinet and get stuck. One time I had to help a group of foreign tourists who let this happen to them, causing them to get stranded halfway. I could reel them back in with the shore based winding stand, and get the chain unstuck from inside the cabinet of the winding stand on the ferry. So, (aiding to) unwind the trailing chain with the crank at the backside of the ferry is the only thing you have to avoid with these ferries.

The best trick to taking a bicycle on an escalator is to turn your steer/front wheel perpendicular, this eliminates any tendency of the bike to move down the steps completely.

I visited the Netherlands once. Dutch people grew up with these bikes, I saw they go fast on these while chatting. Your example bike has steering stability problem because of the front basket.

Another commentary instead of "Look at all the bikes" could have been "Where are the cars?". You are riding downtown. I think the lack of cars is unique for any city. And agree: a bike gives more freedom than a car. Easier to park and to move those short streches.

Bar tape job looks pretty good. I’ve only done that a couple of times in my life and probably not that good. We used to use cloth rim tape years ago. I’m not sure if it was because it was cheap or because it was nice and thick. The bike is looking pretty good. Nice job.
