The person was a friend of a friend. It's crazy that this just appeared on my feed - I was a couple minutes in before I saw the date and realised. Out of respect for the family, all I'll say is that this was an incredibly tragic incident which wouldn't have happened in a better world.

I couldn’t find any news about this person. But sadly it’s almost a daily occurrence on the railways. I do wonder what traumatic events and desperation lead up to the moment where they take this decision. I feel great sympathy for his family and friends who have to come to terms with what has happened and why. The pain they feel that that person didn’t reach out to them. I feel for the driver, who sounded his horn and slammed on his breaks but could do nothing. And the emergency workers /responders who have no choice but to deal with the end result. And I’m sorry if this video brought up bad memories' of a sad day, it was posted to just highlight the huge number of people involved ,when this person thought no one cared.

At the time of recording, I had no idea what had happen, all I saw was the police had closed the road, so sent up the drone, I was expecting a car or bike accident and was scanning around looking for a vehicle, There was two crowds of people on each side of the road, so returned the drone and walked down. It was then I found out what had happened I’ve tried to blur or edit the bit that looks down on to her, but either have a blur square on the whole video, or cut everything before of after the look down. Video editing is not my thing, and this was only my 4th time using the drone and still learning. Thanks for the comment

Having spent 24 years on railtrack coroners contract removing deceased persons off the track let me tell you, these guys are fantastic especially the train drivers. Ironically all services were offered help with the trauma of what they saw or witnessed apart from us humble undertakers. Personally i didnt need it but just to confirm. All these workers do a great job and please remember the vehicles you see here are all needed. So 2 appliances block a road? So what!!!!!

I am a MOM (Mobile Operations Manager) and I’ve done loads of these (and ones in the past at Streatham Common).. the railway can use a “designated local person” to get trains stopped and traction current off… but it depends operational circumstances at the time. Network Rail Route Control can give authority for emergency services to access the track but the worry is always that is uncontrolled.. my one observation from this CCTV footage is that the 2nd LPB appliance parks up and completely knackers any decent access to the station entrance…

All these people moaning about there being ‘too many’ emergency personnel attending - if they were in an emergency situation like a crash etc., wouldn’t they want to be rescued quickly but with the utmost care ? Think of the scenario if they didn’t have a comprehensive response - ‘I’m sorry sir, but we don’t send out all the available teams anymore due to people complaining, so despite that your legs are crushed by the dashboard, us two are just going to pull you out. Painkillers ? No, afraid not - there’s no one here that’s trained to administer morphine, I’m afraid. You’ll just have to put up with the pain !’ And the patient would subsequently sue the NHS for the loss of the use of their legs ! That’s why there is a full response to an incident ! And no, I’m nothing to do with the Emergency Services - it’s just obvious why they do !
@scooby1992
@scooby1992 Ай бұрын
I am in the Emergency Services and couldnt have put it better myself .Sometimes alot of resources are sent to a job because of what it was reported as on the phone .If they are not needed they can soon be cancelled or sent back . I would rather have that scenario than have minimum resources and a massive job to sort out . Years ago I used to go to cardiac arrest cases and deal with them just me and a crew mate . This also meant having to move the patient and stopping CPR whilst we carried them down stairs and then doing one handed CPR in the back of a moving ambulance whilst holding on for dear life with the other hand . Looking back the patient wasnt getting the best chance . Those sort of jobs are resourced much better now , but to the passer by might look like overkill .

I hit someone with my train a year ago. I remember the day, time, turn number, every detail. Within about 2 seconds I had to say in my head, they’re going to die (they wanted to). I can still see them shaking with fear as I was doing 80mph towards them. The realisation of that or saying that in any walk of life or job is just something I couldn’t fathom. I’ve been on the railway for 13 years, it was my first one and I’ve been in and around that. I was there for an hour with my guard and I can tell you, the relief of seeing the above team / list walking down the track is something I can’t put into words. It’s like everything has lifted and there was a conclusion. After you’re left with an image, did that really happen? How do I go back after something like that? NHS PTSD really helped me and nights became easier and I love my job still and that was my worry, I wouldn’t want to go back. The above people Police etc. I can’t say how incredible they are

I can not say myself I understand what you’ve been through but I can only offer my deepest condolences for that to happen to you. My father is a Driver Manager and he has responded to these types of scenarios and worked with the REO (not sure how it is spelt) but he said that one thing he loves about the railway is the support offered for drivers in these situations. I hope you eventually come to peace with the fact you couldn’t have done anything to stop it even if you tried, it was their own decision and I am sure you took all the steps correctly by contacting the signaller and taking every necessary precaution to ensure yours and your passengers safety in that scenario.

I see a lot of people complaining about the number of emergency resources on scene in the comments. I’m going to break it down so it’s easier for people to understand First of all, the ambulance car arrived has an APP onboard (Advanced paramedic practitioner) who are more trained in trauma, catastrophic haemorrhaging and other life threatening injuries. Secondly, the 2 fire engines arrive. I believe both are FRU (Fire rescue unit) trucks. Both have different rescue equipment to help stabilise and extract the patient. Ambulance personnel can’t extract patients unless they are a part of the HART (Hazardous response team) which didn’t attend this incident because LFB (London Fire Brigade) was already there and it wasn’t serious enough to need both. Then with all the police, they are BTP (British transport police) officers who police the railway and train stations. The BTP Pickup that arrived is an EIU (Emergency intervention Unit) which contains medical and rescue equipment specifically for railway rescues. BTP also have an EIU police fire truck for things like this but it wasn’t on this scene. The other BTP officers would be there for traffic, railway and pathway control making sure no one enters the scene other than emergency personnel. The second ambulance car contains a CCP (Critical care paramedic) who are also specially trained in trauma similar to an APP. However, they can do more clinical interventions compared to an APP which can drastically impact patient outcome. Afterwards, you see a white network rail van coming down the road with a brown and blue livery. These are civilians who are trained to work with emergency personnel and ensure that the scene is safe for emergency personnel. Such as ensuring surrounding tracks are shut off. The argument that this is too many people is invalid. There could be more on scene and it still won’t be too many. As previously mentioned, BTP EIU could have sent their rescue truck and LAS (London ambulance service) could have sent a HART team which would be an additional 2-3 vehicles. In this video, you don’t see the arrival of a DCA (Double crewed ambulance) which is a normal ambulance to transport the patient afterwards, which means either out of sight of the camera one arrived or one arrived after the video ends.
@jpmulvey

London ambulance service’s critical care paramedics are called Advanced Paramedic Practitioners in Critical Care (APP-CC). What other trusts may call a critical care paramedic is an APP-CC in LAS. So, it’s likely the first vehicle on scene was either management or a solo responder paramedic on a car (I believe a solo paramedic as LAS tend to use other cars for management to my knowledge). The second car that turns up I agree is enhanced care, but they are called an APP-CC. 😊

As the other person mentioned, it could have been a deliberate attempt to end their life. There are also cases when someone has been pushed in front of a train. People too close to the edge of the platform and lost balance or tripped to close to the edge when a train is approaching and being stuck. There are also cases where someone has dropped an item like a wallet or phone on the track and went to retrieve it, resulting in the train hitting them. There are a number of way they could have been hit, more than I mentioned here. Unfortunately, it has become a part of life, but you can not really blame a company or the government when it is a outside force causing a person strike and not them.
