why not just slipstitch it?
@windrosefiberstudio19 күн бұрын
There is no reason not to end with a regular slip stitch. I think that’s always going to be a perfectly great way to finish off a project. I like having the invisible finish as a second option. There are just times when I choose it, like for the final round of a beanie or the cuffs on a sweater. With the invisible finish off, all your stitches blend together in a way that I find satisfying. It’s definitely a choice and not a necessity.

@@windrosefiberstudio I'm looking for interesting texture sweaters for men and women in DK and worsted weights, actually. I'm pretty good with the technical parts of things. I'm learning textures combined with sweater patterns. I just got plenty of yarn on sale black friday. I just went with it knowing I'd find the right patterns to learn from. I really like precision. Do you have any suggestions? I love finding great designers. We're so spoiled these days. <3 Thanks.
@windrosefiberstudio29 күн бұрын
@@barbaraZ-z9m I am not the best at keeping up with designers, but one name immediately sprang to mind. I really love Yumiko Alexander's work. I have her book Rustic Modern Crochet and have made several of her patterns. My favorite is the one on the cover. It's a lacy, asymmetrical "poncho" (for lack of a better word) called Sea Turtle. It's just such a pretty light layer that I use all year round. She definitely plays with texture and I feel like her designs have an elegance to them.

Very cool project! I like the “thick-and-thin” scarf too. It is quirky, but has a certain style that works. I think it would look great with a black top. Two very different looks. 🦋

The day I was working on my voiceover, I had on a pink sweater. The thick and thin scarf actually looked pretty cute paired with the pink. I'm sure I will get some use out of it or find it a nice home. I was a bit worried about having it be the only representation of the pattern. Although, with an open weave pattern like this one, it can be fun to try out novelty yarns. I can definitely imagine it worked up in an eyelash yarn.

Love the hat, but you need to be closer when you showed how you finished off what's a darning needle😢
@windrosefiberstudioАй бұрын
Thank you for your feedback.😊
@windrosefiberstudioАй бұрын
I just realized I skipped over your question. A darning needle is a needle with a large eye that’s used for mending and also works well with yarn. Any needle that has a large enough eye to use with your yarn should work just fine.
@SandyHuyettАй бұрын
@windrosefiberstudio I am sorry. I worded my sentence wrong . I meant when you were done with hat, instead of slip stitching with the crochet hook, you took the needle instead and closed. I was wondering if you could do a video of it closer so I could see it.
@windrosefiberstudioАй бұрын
@@SandyHuyett I certainly can do that. In the meantime, there are quite a few tutorials for this technique on KZbin. Search for Crochet Invisible Finish off (or fasten off). Also, if you are watching on a smart phone, iPad or tablet, you can zoom in on the video by placing two fingers on the screen and then separating them in a reverse pinch motion. I am working mine into the top of the beginning ch 3, but you can skip that beg ch 3 and work the invisible finish into the next st. This keeps your stitch count the same which is especially important for projects in which you'll be adding on additional rows.

Thank you so much for the video:) how many meters or yards can you make in a minute?
@windrosefiberstudio2 ай бұрын
It’s a little more challenging to keep a nice consistent draft with hemp, so it probably takes me a little longer with this fiber. I don’t know that I have ever actually timed myself and done the math, but I would guess that it’s somewhere around 3 yards a minute. With a fiber that drafts more easily, I can probably double this amount when I get in the flow. To be honest, I don’t focus on time very much when I’m spinning. I just kind of get sucked into the process. It’s very meditative and there’s just something about the feel of the fibers going through your fingers that’s so satisfying.

Really nice pattern. I haven’t seen this one before. I’ve seen the chevron stitch often called the ripple stitch. Love your yarn! There’s another tweak that also helps the edges: on dc, fptc row, start with ch 1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) then work dc in very first st. This gives an actual st to work into at the end of the row, like you did with the sc tweak. I hope that made sense. 🙂🦋

I really want to get back into spinning. I ran into a skein of some coil spun that I made a long time ago, and I don’t think I even remember exactly how to do that style anymore. One of my near future goals is to get back into spinning and also to work on a weaving WIP that I’ve been neglecting. Do you have other handiwork hobbies?
@stitchaspellMilan3 ай бұрын
@@windrosefiberstudio I taught myself embroidery, cross stitch, needlepoint, knitting, needle felting, and of course crochet. Harder to do the finer work these days because of worsening eyesight issues. Always wanted to spin and weave. Tried a little drop spindle spinning years ago, but didn’t keep up with it. Also a little free style weaving, but again didn’t keep up with it. I’ve always really been into fiber crafts of all kinds.
