Looks like someone has had them as a pet illegally at some stage and it's got loose. Or escaped from a zoo and it's been not reported.. Absolutely a leopard could survive in the Aussie bush. Plenty to eat, wild pig, wild dogs, Roo's, Wallabies, farm animals, Rabbits, sheep. In 2 years a panther could easily travel from Victoria to NSW and go all over the bush.

Sighting Otway's Victoria. Our very close encounter happened around 1984, on a sunny morning (10am) between Apollo Bay and Skenes creek. We had just turned into Wild Dog Road roughly only 1 km from the intersection of the Great Ocean Road. My husband was driving very slowly and I admiring the scenery in the passenger seat. When out of nowhere to my left and only 5 meters in front of our car a massive jet-black cat leaped from the longish grassy embankment, I yelled there's a Panther, wth is that doing here! It continued to run across the road, then we watched it leap up the 10-foot-high embankment effortlessly in one giant leap. 100% Melanistic Leopard! It stood higher than our front grill and body as long as the front of our car, plus add the very long curled up tail, all black short hair no fluff whatsoever. I distinctly remember the high shoulder blade movements as it was running in a straight line just in front of us. We were not game enough to get out of the car to investigate its whereabouts. This area & country road was in the middle of a large sheep farm surrounded with open grassy hills and gullies and not far away a narrow running creek. Unforgettable experience!

Ive been bow hunting deer out the back of Glenn innes on a 3500 acre propery with our bow hunting club.I was out by myself walking around the back of the property trying to get around the front of some deer in the paddock.I was walking down a road used by the owner.I got to the bottom of the hill and a animal the length of a greyhound ran across the road directly in front of me. If that wasnt enough in the very next step another one ran acro9ss in front.They literally crossed the road in one bound.Ive never seen a cat move that fast or be the size they were.Ive shot moggies that when ive picked them up by the scruff of the neck the tail was nearly on the ground.Im 6'4" tall so a pretty big cat,these things dwarfed that by miles.I continued down the road to start heading back to the car and found the propery owner had a pig trap setup,they were in there hunting pigs i reckon.

There's nothing to worry about they are simply a modern marsupial lion with dog cat like characteristics you can generally camp amongst them they're not interested in eating you they have round top pads when walking and when they are in slippery clay the claws come out and the pads extremely narrow out when the claw is pushed out they have a thumb on the inner pads three toes n1 thumb that Swings Back they can grab their prey in a human-like hand as I have photographs of these these black panthers just appear like a big cat they are very hard to get a photograph because when they see you they're prop about 2 seconds they focus on you and they're bound off at Greater speed than a stag hound there's no time for reaching the cameras or anything else once they sense you watching them they're gone like a flash in the summer in Rich Little Gullies rich with wombats possums koalas koalas are their favourite food in Victoria's Western Forest there's not many koalas because Panthers need to eat possums they eat them too if you suspect one is nearby your campsite or property wait for just on dark when it's hard to see start approaching the heavy foliage where you think he might be as a warning he gives you a extremely low rasping growl not like big cat at all and if you dare to keep walking at him you'll start hearing a very high pitch snarling extreme high pitch nothing like big cats at all relative harmless have been threatening to eat me or attack if I didn't back down and go away when you hear the high pitched snarling you really got to think is it worth photo it might be the last one you take? they are best noticed when you're travelling Forest roads in the evenings you're catch them crossing the road in front of you once in a blue moon if anyone doubts what I'm saying just go to Trentham town in Victoria there's always stories of the latest Panther sightings there Wedderburn there's a little town near that and they love their panthers in the forest I ambushed them on their Crossing of the bush track turn the headlights on with the motor off as I come down the hill caught the both of them in the headlights I come back next morning and videotaped the takeoff position she ran but not jumped she had a small one in the pouch the male leapt 3 m each bound and his 4 feet come down close together narrow at the back of the hips they are tall and very rangie and athletic built like a stag hound but they can grow much bigger this particular family I was tracking their tracks over a period there were little ones big ones teenagers and Mum and Dad this is the crowd near Wedderburn little town the locals love their panthers in the forest that visit their little town that's when I caught them in the headlights they were coming back from visiting the town stealing chooks cats dogs whatever they are very curious if you're sound asleep in your tent one thing will wake you up is there heavy body breaking sticks approaching your tent the moment you wake you'll hear them retreating you can't track these animals because they have super intelligence and they won't walk past infrared cameras on one occasion one walked on a track everyday so I set up Black infrared cameras well so he's tracks only went into the bushes to avoid the camera the camera went off I can see a part of him in the bushes that's one at Marvel bar they are everywhere if you see a range of mountains creeks Gullies some game you've got them their Achilles heels is stamping their feet in mud in that Creek or Gully or you'll see their tracks walking and no human footprints with them that rules out man walking dog I have photographs of 6 and 7 inch wide Panther tracks from Port Hedland and from Daylesford in Victoria the way their feet go down in the mud nearer Dam I estimate some of them are 200 kilos 300 kilos they leave good impressions with their pads the big ones because they are very very heavy if they're upset with you and your camping in their place and that high pitched snarling wake you up in fright just drive 5K down the road /track go back to sleep they won't follow you they are not interested in making lunch out of you the old man of the forest when you hear him time to go home

@@krimlefou7879 My father was going to help his boss build his new house at Lang Lang I decided to go with him. The property had a dam down the hill from it cleared land to it but surrounded by bush. Scrap nails and timber with 4 10 gallon steel drums would make a great raft for the dam I thought @ 10. I dragged all the pieces to it down the hill borrowed a hammer , I was set to go. About an hour in I started feeling like I was being watched so I stopped several times and surveyed the tall grass in front of the bush. I spotted a dark figure in the light brown meter high grass at the bushes edge, it kept changing shape but stayed within the same area. I picked up an approximately 8 ft length of 4x2 timber and headed up to confront what I thought was a wombat or boar. I got to the edge of the grass peaked over keeping the 4x2in front of me, my eyes saw WTF my body went into shock and froze, there it was less than 10 feet in front of me moving to my left slinking back further into the bush. It was low down and snarling with its tail in the air hooked at the end, it turned its head stopped looked at me then growled, I noticed the muscular body first then the large front k9. It flicked its tail side to side and disappeared into the bush. I was still frozen to the spot with the piece of 4x2 in front of me. I slowly started to get my composure back, backing up keeping the 4x2 in front of me and scanning the bush and grass praying and hoping there was no others. I slowly backed up the hill, when I heard one of the workmen at the house I dropped the 4x2 and sprinted to this guy nailing sheeting up. He was up a ladder he looked down at me and said, you alright you look like you just seen a ghost. I couldn’t speak I just wanted to be inside this building surrounded by workers and that’s where I sat until my dad had had enough. Looking back I truly believe that the piece of 4x2 saved me that day and it was eyeing me off. The panther was bigger than my neighbours Rottweiler and musculiar thick set with one very large fang as I only saw it when it stopped for a sec and turned. I am a veteran, I joined the navy and will not go into the bush by myself, I will go with others while I carry a big stick and stay on edge the whole time. I know what I saw, they are there.

Get urine from a female leopard/mountain lion in heat from a zoo/captive reeding program and use this to tempt any big cats (males) in the area to seek out a potential mate. Food is apparently readily available, but having happy time with a female should draw in a mate. Salt the area with food and set the whole near water and see if your luck changes. I have used fox urine to attract other male foxes toa

These people couldn’t find their way out of a wet paper bag. You are the worst hunter/stalkers I’ve ever seen. if you want to catch a cougar or panther do what we do in America call someone from Wyoming, Montana, or Idaho who has a team of about six dogs with radio collars and you will find your cat in a day or two. Here in America we have tons of cougars that we hunt them. It’s the most successful way to do it. Why would you use a biologist who is not a hunter who has no hunting instinct these guys are fools.

The reason why the Australian government does not want anyone to know about these animals is the same reason why our government here in the U.S.A. does not want us to know about our Sasquatch; Because once they acknowledge their existence, every tree huger out there would demand any piece of property with more than 3 trees on it be set aside as Sasquatch Sanctuaries. This would cause total devastation to our economy, and our legal system.

I don't think panthers or cougars roaming Australia. It's much more likely that those sightings were sightings of "mega cats", these 15kg feral cats.
@noelchignell10486 ай бұрын
Assuming big cats are actually present: The risk to humans is extremely low: in the last 100 years only 130 attacks including 28 fatalities for cougars. For leopards the risk is higher but still very low: most leopard attacks are associated with livestock attacks mostly in India and Nepal. The risk in Australia would be negligible and poeple are far more likely to be injured or killed by crocodiles, snakes, spiders, bees, dogs or other people. The impact on wildlife may actually be positive as native species are adapted to predation by marsupial predators which have been wiped and studies have shown positive impacts of reintroduced wolves, lynx and others on stabilising prey populations and helping to avoid overgrazing.
