I'm having a problem getting my old cable out. It's so rusted it's stuck in the rotary steering rack. I've tried penetrating oils and using a punch to release the pin but it wont budge. I can't use heat because there's no way to get a torch on it without burning something. I don't want to cut the cable because I think the cable is fine but the rotary rack is dried out and corroded. My steering is a little tight and I can tell the rack needs some cleaning and grease. The engine itself is turning pretty easy when I move it by hand and my steering tube seems fine. Its definitely at the steering end that I'm having issues. It's freed up a lot after spraying it with penetrating oil and White lithium grease but I still want to remove the cable and clean it and as much of the rotary rack as possible.

i have the same situation going on, mind if i pick your brain when you get a chance? 1st: how did you get the keel out and keep the front half of it in? 2nd: can i just place another piece of timber in it and how would i go about joining the 2 pieces of the keel?

Did you do anything with the stringers on this? Anyone know if these boats were manufactured well, heavy duty? I have the exact same one but get a bit nervous about the transom . Not sure how they fare over time, the integrity of the glass and such.

Can you share any sites or other sources of information on these boats? I have one, can't find much at all, not even Wiki. Took it as a trade for a bunch of firewood. I got the trailer (tilting trailer) and a Mercury 50/4 2-stroke engine. The boat is in reasonable condition, the engine is questionable and the trailer is great. I have no idea the year of the boat. Your's looks fantastic! Nice work!

Mine is slipping one way but perfect the other way. The cog and gear in the helm are solid as and not the problem. The problem appears to be the coil not meshing properly with the grooves (in the helm) and just slipping. The mesh perfectly one way, but not the other.

I am getting ready to do the floor on my glastron. wouldn’t it be better to put the full length sheet of ply to the rear by the transom and the partial with the seam toward the front, where there isn’t as much stress and water?

good job, my only recommendation would be to roll in one direction and tip perpendicular to your rolling. this will eliminate any streak looks and blend the paint a lot better. also if you color sand, look at it under a florescent light. slowly roll your view across the reflection. If the edges of the reflection look wavy, you wet sand until you see crisp edges. should look like a mirror reflection. This is done for perfect high end show cars. But do it if you want to look perfect.

Beautiful Job! I have a 61' Arkansas Traveller SkiJack w/ a 40hp Johnson Sea Horse motor; all original. Boat was in water for 1st time since 1981 the other day. Father in law was original owner and boat has always been stored in a garage under a cover. Amazing time capsule, and I hope to not change much of anything on it.
