My final college project was a motor controller, 25yrs ago. Got it spinning but didn't like a load, transient voltage spikes! Didn't understand the importance of capacitors back then🤣

Have you considered doing this again with modern cells?
@etischer6 күн бұрын
Maybe, I'd like a EV convertible. Modern EVs available now days are better than a DIYer can do on their own... so I'm just waiting for a convertible EV to come out.

As you only need three pins and one of them is ground anyway, you could throw a 2.5mm or 3.5mm mini jack into the back. So you don't have wires hanging out of there :) To make it idiot proof I would put the optocouplers and resistors into the device, so if anyone plugs some headphones or stuff in there nothing will happen.
@etischer6 күн бұрын
I had thought about that as well, there's just not enough space to mount a headphone jack. It's also a little safer having a non-audio type connector; I wouldn't want to connect the 5v outputs from the Arduino into a headphone jack by accident.

How’s that wire stripper? I’ve been looking for a new good one and liked yours. Is it any good? Looks similar to what I have used in the past
@etischer6 күн бұрын
The Weicon stripper works great, especially for tiny wires that are smaller than the smallest hole on my traditional strippers; like the tiny wires a USB cable. I tried the Knipex version and it wasn't even close, about 50% success rate. Both are made in Germany, the Weicon is much lighter.

I want one of these knobs to control my PC case fans. I wish someone had fully variable PC case fans for sale. Of course someone with your skill set could rig it up no problem,but it’s a real head scratcher for me
@jamirograntsaan21246 күн бұрын
but.. they are? your fans aren't always at 100%.. right?

Have you tried software options? Does your pc not have fan control on the bios/uefi? Have you tried using "fan control" app (3rd party) or similar for windows?

It seems as though everyone around the world is making this same model. Bosh doesn’t make it. It’s a Chinese machine as far as I can tell. Other than the plastic cover and strange lever for height adjustment, they’re all the same inside. These things are really loud. The series wound motor contributes to that noise. It’s the same type as used in portable power tools. You know how loud those are. I think a lot the inaccuracy is from that chuck.

Did you 3D print the circuit board trays? They look perfect.
@etischer24 күн бұрын
I cut them on a table saw. The circuit board stack is staggered by 0.1" from board to board, so the jumpers can daisy chain the alarm signal.

Coming back to rewatch this amazing project, and really wondering how this passed an inspection. I imagine these days any inspection facility would pop the hood, see those battery banks without a box, and suggest coming back once compliant with NHTSA 571.305?
