I've been told that as leader I'm often "too early" on the 1, drawing her forward too soon. I think the hitch is useful for practicing to hold the stretch longer. I'm trying to adjust my basic (without hitch) so that I'm *just* starting to move the connection point back as I touch for the 1. I think that's what I see Brian doing; hope I'm on the right track.

Thanks! As a follower I always struggle to know if we are going into a stretch or if I should start at 1. How can I tell the signaling for those two things apart?
@WestCoastSwingOnline4 күн бұрын
The stretch doesn't mean you won't go on 1. The stretch happens in your anchor step and into your first step on 1. You can stretch on your own, but if you and your partner are in sync and the stretch happens together it is super fun and feels like you all are really dancing together!

This was very useful, and we will definitely watch the hitch video. One thing we struggle with, as beginners with no WCS teacher close to us, is hand grips. My husband struggles with a death grip and thumb on. Hee has made huge progress (when we started, he had no sense of rhythm and it took him 3 months to learn to walk to the beat). He is highly insecure and doesn't react well to"help" from me. In your videos, you seem to be leading with two fingers, which would make our turns (and probably everything else) much smoother and more comfortable for me, but I can't find a video that clearly illustrates or talks about this most basic things. Things you could make a video demonstrating this and discussing why you hold your hand this way? And how to hold your hand when leading inside and outside turns? Thanks so much. Love your videos and have several of your courses for when we get past this.

That is a great idea! A good way to stop using the thumb is by attaching it to your finger. We will get a video our for hand holds as soon as possible. Until then I hope this video can help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoezpXRpjJtrjJYsi=GDcaaBik_e-y47eG

The starter step is not something you need to learn as a brand new dancer. But it is helpful to know it exists. 😊

My local dance community (myself definitely included) is fairly novice with West Coast so anything other than a left side pass, right side pass, and whip, is fairly exotic. These will be fun variations to introduce!

Not gonna lie, I chose to not think about my feet at all when dancing. As long as my feet aren't smacking the floor, whatever my feet are doing is none of my business LOL

Not gonna lie, I don't particularly care for dancing with male followers as a male leader. It has nothing to do with hate but that's my preference. If guys want to dance together on the floor, I don't care. I just dislike how some act hurt or pissed off when I tell them I don't want to dance with them.
@WestCoastSwingOnline18 күн бұрын
Ya I think everyone should be respectful of each other. Like you said you are fine with guys dancing together but you don't want to and that should be ok too. Just makes rotation in group classes harder.

Bryan B. and Mis Meggan. Add some advanced styling to your continuous whip step. Watch what we were doing in 1987 for my Texas State Whip competition routine. My continuous whip step is at the beginning of the routine. We called it multiple whip step back then. My partner Renee and I worked on this step for months. It became my trademark competition step. You both are great teachers. I enjoy your teaching style and all your video's. Keep up the good work. The highly stylized multiple whip step was taught to me by my dance coach the King of Whip the late Gilbert Huron. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJbMaoWDbLisiKc
