This is way too high quality a video to only have 500 views and no comments! As a 30 year old I'm just recently realising i probably have ADHD that nobody picked up on because I'm also pretty introverted. Thanks for addressing this issue and creating one of the few videos on KZbin about the introverted ADHD experience!

@horrisnorris647813 күн бұрын
@theadhdmompreneur Thanks! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the idea that for some introverts/masking people, they look the opposite of what people expect for ADHD. E.g. i have difficulty knowing when it's my turn to speak, but I don't interrupt, I instead wait for a gap in the conversation that never comes. People find me a calming presence rather than frantic, because the hyperactivity is mostly internal. I am generally diligent and thorough, triple checking for mistakes, because I'm hypervigilant to the shame of getting things wrong, but I take twice as long as others to do some things because I'm overwhelmed by all the details and don't trust myself to get everything right. Does that kind of thing fit with your clients' experiences? I also gather that this kind of masking is more common in women, so as a man it can be challenging as there seem to be so few other men with similar experiences to me.
@theadhdmompreneur6 сағат бұрын
@@horrisnorris6478 Yes...I totally have heard it's like the hyperactivity happens inside. Which can be exhausting, right? And the fear of failure or mistakes is also very common. Some may be due to self esteem issues (because ADHDers often have lower sense of self esteem due to a plethora of reasons) and also because of rejection sensitive dysphoria (we feel pain and criticism deeper than neurotypicals). I did do a video about masking that may answer some of your questions... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnTblWmnobeAo5I

Could you tell how to deal with feeling low or down due to uncertainty and challenges in professional life ? What would be some best books to read for on this subject..
@theadhdmompreneur29 күн бұрын
I'm so sorry to hear that you or someone you know is feeling this way. So much of my work is centered around more of the goal setting/productivity side of ADHD and I do not have any training as a therapist/counselor. I can speak from personal experience though and some things that have helped me personally when I feel low include: 1. Starting a gratitude practice - It's so easy to focus on the negative or what you don't have, especially when you're feeling low. Making regular practice of recognizing what I do have, even simple things like my cats or flowers in my backyard, helps me recognize that even when times are tough, I am very blessed. 2. Celebrate even the smallest wins - Again, it is so easy to focus on negativity or what we haven't accomplished. I think part of this is because ADHDers are big picture thinkers. So we don't see a "win" unless the entire original plan is completed. Instead, I like to focus on celebrating all the steps that help me along the way. Even something as simple as crossing the item off a to-do list can help you feel like you are making progress and moving towards your goal and where you would like your life to be. 3. Talk to someone - Whether it's a trusted friend or family member or a trained professional, it is really important to discuss what you are feeling with someone else versus keeping it bottled up inside of you, eating away at your mood and confidence. Life can throw challenges at you at any time so having a sounding board to help you process is so essential. In terms of books, I am not going to lie...my ADHD keeps me from reading much. 🤣 But one book that comes to mind is "You are a Badass" by Jen Sincero. It does, as the title suggests, have some language (just a heads up in case that doesn't jive with you) but I think the message of the book speaks to your initial question about feeling low and dealing with uncertainty. Good luck and let me know if you have any additional questions.

Few times in a month I have this thing where my brain wants to do something but my body is like "nuh uh that ain't happening fk you" or like a huge commitment issue where I have the urge to do something but I end up not doing it but I really wanted to do it but just couldn't due to some sort of mental block 💀 people be thinking I'm lazy but that's a real fkin struggle To those who think that way, imagine you become extremely self aware randomly and enter the realm of your brain where you feel detached from your body and become a system trapped in a robot you're supposed to be controlling but since you're programming yourself the code to do something doesn't work for some reason and you have no idea how to fix it, while trying to fix it you accidentally mess up the whole movement section and make doing 1 thing on repeat, you have no idea how to fix this issue so you try and eventually after few hours you finally fix it, but it's 3am, and your system is overheating so it becomes crazy, then the system goes boom and resets itself breaking the whole code again (That's quite an explanation 💀)

I have ADHD and it's not like mom brain....ADHD is extremely different. Mom brain gets better, evens out, and rest helps. ADHD had good days but is mostly bad and never gets better. My mom brain made my ADHD worse, of course. But mom brain changes you, gives you things after the initial depletion. ADHD doesn't give you bonus rewards for surviving it for a time. That's this mom of 15 years and has had ADHD for over 20 years.
@theadhdmompreneur2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. As a fellow mom of 13 years and ADHD thriver, my intention is not to discount the journey of any mom or ADHDer. I simply wanted to share that what are often referred to as "mom brain" symptoms like those caused by drops in estrogen after birth (which can cause lower dopamine levels resulting in executive function struggles) or lack of sleep (resulting in difficultly with focus & emotional regulation). If you watch the full video about whether it is mom brain or ADHD, I discuss that if these symptoms continue to persist for years after you've had your last child, you may want to seek an ADHD diagnosis because it is probably not related to what is traditionally though of as "mom brain".

if everyone has adhs, then its not a fucking disorder is it
@theadhdmompreneur2 ай бұрын
I don't think everyone has ADHD. I do, however, think that everyone has times that they experience issues with their executive function due to disregulated dopamine uptake because they may be tired or stressed or hungry. The difference is that those of us diagnosed with ADHD experience these symptoms day in and day out, 24/7. Just like not everyone who has experienced sadness would be considered depressed or everyone that feels anxiety before a big presentation would be anxious, there are many factors that are considered beyond experiencing symptoms that go into the diagnosis of mental health.

Are you another one of those people trying to convince me my adhd is a disorder? Or do you acknowledge that it is a evolutionary role like soldier ants vs worker ants adhd are evolved for hunting fighting and chaos and crisis, civilization and goverments and trained first responders just made those situations less common and being trapped in a classroom prevents adhd from learning how to use their skills, do you believe this or do you think its a disorder?
@theadhdmompreneur7 ай бұрын
I do not believe ADHD (which I believe is a terrible misnomer, btw) is a disorder. I believe it is a divergent way we use our brains compared to what society has deemed "typical". And while I would love to live in a world where us ADHDers could just spend our days hyperfocusing on whatever sparks our interest or holds our focus at the moment, society in general just isn't there yet. And for my ideal clients who are moms and entrepreneurs with ADHD, there are times when hyperfocus traps may prevent us from seeing the success we desire in our work or cause additional stress in our home and family lives. My goal is to support my clients in using their unique skill sets in a world that wasn't necessarily made for them. Thanks for your comment.
@daenor78077 ай бұрын
@theadhdmompreneur I'm glad to hear it, just one thing to add idk if you touch on this but hyperfocus isn't necessarily something we can't control, it takes some experimenting sure to figure out what triggers it for different people, for me boss fight worthy music and a closing deadline and of course a clear course of action works and heat and slowness of... well everything are weaknesses to my hyper focus, I learned these during 2 years working as a dishwasher, friday and saturday nights were stressful but also in a way my favorite (depended how long I had to keep hyperfocus up for at a time) party days were my favorite because dishes came back in waves like boss fights where I just had to keep the tubs from over flowing like the alien shooter arcade game, do with this information what you will

@theadhdmompreneur8 ай бұрын
Excellent question! Some things that have worked for me and my clients include: - Breaking tasks down into smaller pieces then set "due dates" for those pieces. For instance, if you want to paint a bedroom before guests come, you need to buy paint, check other supplies, have a large chunk of time to paint the space, etc. Create a task on your calendar for each task so that it becomes "now". - If the due date alone doesn't work, you could ask a family member or friend to check in with you to make sure you are making progress. "Hey John, I'd like to have the room painted before our guests come. I need to buy paint by Thursday this week, can you remind me Wednesday if I haven't done it yet?" - As the previous commenter stated, reduce any friction to the task. Every hurdle you perceive you have to jump through tells your ADHD brain "This is too much. We can do it later." If there is a way to prep things ahead of time to reduce the energy it takes to get started, you may be more likely to follow through.

I've struggled with insomnia and not being able to get to sleep when I'd like for 50 years. Can you explain why avoiding caffeine is suggested for ADHDers who can't drink caffeine during the day because it will make us fall asleep or just sap our energy?
@theadhdmompreneur10 ай бұрын
Hello! And great question...avoiding caffeine and sugar before bed falls into the general rule for MOST people with ADHD. But like with so many ADHD symptoms and behaviors, there are always exceptions to what works for others. I personally cannot have caffeine after about noon or else I cannot sleep (and I realized this long before my ADHD diagnosis). But if caffeine is able to stimulate your dopamine and allow you to relax and go to sleep, by all means get some sleep. 😊 I've even heard of people taking naps after they take their stimulant medications. Hopefully as the research gets more detailed into how and why we operate the way we do, we'll be able to better answer these questions as they pertain to specific people/types of ADHD. Thanks again for the thoughtful question...have a great week!
