Doubt it, with the cost of running an AM transmitter being so expensive.

I am a fan of CHML 900 and absolutely devastated. I am from Doha, Qatar and thru RADIO GARDEN I can link with CHML too bad as I am one of an avid fan. I noticed that many institutions are closing regardless of its contribution to the history of a nation. Please reconsider or please guide us where to hear similar stations from locals in Canada. Thank you

If you're in Lethbridge, it's on Rogers (Shaw) Cable channel 5 and 211, and channel 101 on Rogers Ignite TV. If you're outside of Lethbridge, you can get them on satellite or on the Global TV app.

This was a 50kw Canadian clear station that had served Hamilton and much of Canada for some 97 years. It's an outright insult that this station didn't get a chance to say more, pull out some archival material, and note the great men and women who had been at CHML over those 97 years. Bad on you, Corus, for such a poor move.

Not the first time Corus has done this. In Montreal in 2010 they abruptly shut down CINW 940, the direct descendant of CFCF 600 from one day to the next for similar reasons. CFCF's roots went back to 1919 and was the first ever station with continuous programming.

As a native Montréaler who was just in that area 2 weeks ago, I can honestly say that the water main break is HUGE. I often passed in front of the CTV Montréal (formerly CFCF 12) studios to peek in. I'm not mad that the studio is flooded. Maybe now they can get a new set! CTV stopped investing in set changes and graphics package changes 10 years ago. So, if this is what it takes to get some new digs, then so be it!

Oh hey, that's another unexpected appearance of a piece of the 1999-era ITV News theme in the identifiers (along with the "Look at my suit!" bit of Hannibal's in The Eric Andre Show). A better shutdown than how Bell handled all of the TSN Radio stations they shut a few years back, but only just barely.

AM radio stations are slowly fading away from the Canadian airwaves...at least one major city in Atlantic Canada, Halifax, shut down their last AM radio station back in 2009; now all the radio stations there are only on the FM dial!

Myles Marcus works for Canadian Traffic Network, and they're based out of Billy Bishop Airport. He's most likely not at the Corus Hamilton building and probably just had a technical glitch. Though I'm guessing someone told him after he did his 9:30 AM hit to not bother doing a 10 AM one.

If the Hamilton market could have supported CHML's revenue needs, this would have been yet another flamethrower AM repurposed on a FM freq. But the costs of doing a news and talk format obviously overwhelmed whatever top line the station might garner. The AM band, in many households, is now drowned out by USB chargers and many other RF emitting devices. No longer viable when a cell phone can deliver news and vital info.

It didn't help that a lot of CHML's coverage pattern was pointed into the United States (I was a somewhat regular listener in Western New York, especially to Ticats games). With that border, it was hard to monetize that signal. And running a radio station in Canada in general is a huge headache as it is... not that Canada gives two poos about the AM dial.

It's not just a huge corporation ran a great radio station into the ground. What about all the advertisers who plugged their stuff - especially non profits like Mission Services and the Salvation Army ... where are they going to go to raise funds or make pitches? If they've prepaid ad time do they get their money back? It's ironic, but when they moved their studios from the east end to Westdale 40 years ago, the song they played when the signal flipped studios was "The Sounds of Silence." Now all we have is silence. The personalities deserved a chance to say goodbye.

I wonder if the hosts/employee knew in advance or was announced in a last minutes meeting, maybe that why there was no host for 2 hours before the final on air annoucement. Similar to how SunNews Network shutdown, the emplyee only got a email memo when they arrive at work that day. At least they can sell the equipment or transfer them to there other stations.

@@heymannyg I know last year when Audacy decided to pawn off Star 102.5 to K-Love (blech) they gave enough advance warning to put together a farewell package hosted by its longtime morning man.
