I got lost in the "magical pen" introduction. I came looking for information on writing quality, and departed confused.
@PiersStudioАй бұрын
@@fredk1952 it’s easy to get confused watching my videos as I use pens for so many things, but not usually for what you might think as “writing”- putting words from your brain onto the paper. I’ll try to come up with a video to address that. But, what factors do you look for in deciding if a pen has “good” writing quality. I might guess that it is “smoothness”. But let me know.

Why do some have the tines open and others don’t? Thanks

If it makes you feel even a tiny bit better about everything, I really enjoy hearing from you. Lots of people do. The majority of human beings never have anyone beyond their significant other look forward to hearing what they have to say. That should make you feel at least a little special.

True words, indeed, about the quality of the "Plain Janes" of the pen world. In Australia, due to its Commonwealth connection, the English Parker Duofolds of the 1950s and '60s, are reasonably common. While nowhere as cheap as the Sheaffer's, they outperform a good 3/4 of currently produced pens (looking at you, Herr Precious Resin.) Thanks for another interesting post.

Fascinating array of pens for us to see. How does one find your pens for sale on the internet?

Pier an excellent video on damaged pen repair. When will you come to Minneapolis, your hometown, and give us a talk? You once, 20+ years ago, came to our pen club meeting and brought some of your large pen-related drawings for showtell. Cheers

It was really good to see you at the show and afterwards. That English Waterman's with the belt and braces clip is really, really cool. I've never seen anything like it before. Very, very cool. The sterling Wahl All Metal Pen that you didn't buy - I think I know which one it was, and I had the exact same reaction to it. Was it the one that Lindsay had?

Nice to see someone else's haul. I was there on Saturday--didn't stop by because you were surrounded most of the morning. Nice venue, loved having coffee in the cafe next door with the jazz combo playing. I picked up a gold Parker 61 with a replacement stubbed nib, a Morrison lever filler with a nice semi-flex gold nib, and a gorgeous Ancora lever filler with a semi-flex steel nib. Nice time and nice to see some new sellers as well.

So good to see you after so long - or hear you, mostly. Everything you mentioned I agree with, and it makes me want to have a conversation with you about it because I also have a slightly different perspective, but it's essentially the same. It's like a stereoptical photograph - it's the same scene, only with a very slightly different perspective which makes everything three dimensional. "Three-Dee", if I may be permitted to create a very old-fashioned sounding spelling for a fairly modern term. (There's a video we were planning on doing...)

That's honestly a pretty creative reuse of something that'd otherwise be forgotten about and thrown away. Have you considered writing down each of their names? Might be interesting to see what became of them.

This gives me an idea. I kept a lot of paperwork from my days in school, but I don't really have any attachments to them. Instead of throwing them away, perhaps I should repurpose them for an art project of some kind.

I think that Wahl with the roller clip jammed into the cap to replace the original clip was a part of one of my junk lots that I sold recently. It was nibless, so the seller must have put that tempoint nib on it He also complained about the lot and made me refund him 50 dollars. Unlike him, I mentioned the f-- up clip.

The downward beak bend was often used during the period to add rigidity and reduce the flex slightly, you can find this tip shape on a metric ass ton of waterman safety pens
@HistoricGentleman5 ай бұрын
Also the older the pen, being true iridium, it tends to be more porous as opposed to later styles adopted that were less porous and capable of wetting the nib tip with a better quality “iridium”
@HistoricGentleman5 ай бұрын
Iirc, the bought the Boston pen company for the designs and body manufacturing capabilities and they bought tempoint so they could have in house nib production capability.
