Haddock is delicious, similar to cod in texture. Pollock (Staithe) is also a member of the haddock family. Haddock is the most popular fish in Scotland (where fish and chips are known as a 'fish supper' at any time of day!) and in some areas of Northern England.

It really was incredibly delicious. Good quality ingredients and plenty of them, freshly prepared - even the bread was super-fresh. The chips were crispy on the outside, fluffy inside and piping hot. The oil they were cooked in was also fresh. Worth every penny.

@@foodsfromaroundtheworld wow thanks so much for the recommendation. I am at my MIL's on Saturday night so perhaps I'll make a trip to Wenzel's on Sunday on the way home. I agree, they need to expand. It's crazy they don't have a Canterbury branch. I could get there within an hour. Up north, Pound Bakery is a popular competitor to Greggs. I don't know whether you are familiar with the brand but it is pretty good and their prices are more competitive than Gregg's. My Dan tried their hand-crimped steak and ale pie and he thought it delicious and it was packed full of meat and mushrooms and a rich gravy. They do some good cakes and vegetarian pastries too in case you eat halal.

@@growjoyfullyhomestead I had protein at lunchtime, with salad. I enjoy some types of fish (eg salmon, sea trout, smoked mackerel, tuna, cod, haddock, plaice, calamari), nuts, beans and lentils etc, peanut butter and lactose-free dairy such as goat cheese, and free range farm eggs. I tend to avoid fake meat or anything with loads of additives. It had been a hot day and was getting on in the evening so I didn't fancy anything with the trimmings. 😺

@@growjoyfullyhomestead this family-run fishmongers have been a Deal staple for decades, selling fish from a small open-front shop on the high street. They are also caterers and had fortunately succeeded well enough to expand into the larger empty building previously held by Rooks Family Butchers who had vastly expanded their range and then went out of business due to the pandemic. Jenkins are leasing their previous premises to another enterprise and obviously have a shrewd financial acumen. It is really heartening to see a family business make a success of things in trying times and still offer fantastic product and service too!
