Lovely!! So glad I found this. I have been learning this on both pipes and flute for a while and this version was just what I needed! Thanks!

A spellbinding composition and performance, both ancient and other-worldly. Totally unique in the present shakuhachi landscape in tonality and delivery. Thank you Hanz for sharing your authentic path and gift 🙏

Thank you for sharing such a special piece. The story about losing then finding it was very well written, I was touched by it. The music is exceptional. I shall listen again, thank you for making it available, for remembering it.

Hanz, what an amazing find! I just read your blog post and am very moved. Was the photo of you and your father taken in Seattle? It looks like the Nippon Kan Theatre. All the best.

I could feel the flavor of Nara's Tenpyo culture from their performances. It especially reminded me of Yakushiji Temple. It's very classy and wonderful. Thank you for letting me listen

Is it because the teacher warms up the shakuhachi before playing every morning because it's cold, or is it because if you do this every day, the instrument will become a better-sounding instrument?
@HanzAraki Жыл бұрын
I was genuinely surprised to see this. He never did it when I was young, but Tōno is a very cold place in wintertime so he might have started to do this while living there.

@@HanzAraki Thank you for answering! Your father didn't do this when he was a child. Certainly, the sound will be better. I'm going to try incorporating this into my daily habit starting today.

Well played! I think it's a bit ironic how I found you through shakuhachi and I've now come full circle back to listening to you play trad!

This is Honkyoku ? by Araki Kodo?
@HanzAraki Жыл бұрын
This is a Kodo IV arrangement of a traditional piece. It was not originally part of the honkyoku tradition but was accepted later.

One word excellent. Even now, I earnestly desire to study the "Araki school." Also, I saw your other videos, and I was able to sense a much more orthodox flow in your performance than you might think.

Very interesting interview of your father Hanz! I totally understand the point of a bombastic "ro". Other Kinko schools, as Chikumeisha do not use it. However, the "pip" sound I have heard so many times in Aoki Reibo II performance as well as Notomi Judo I. I personally think that that "pip" sound is interesting as a technical resource if done on purpose.
