I will say that it's a bit too long. He probably could've trimmed off 7-10 minutes off this record and it probably would've been a tighter, improved album altogether. Great analysis guys especially breaking down the backgrounds and sound structure! I remember my Dad playing her first album when I was 10 and it was way more rnb/soul than pop. Some pop but always a soulful voice. The only pop heavy album was music box honestly which wasn’t her decision as an artist. 90s Mariah bridged pop and r&b. Just like Janet and Whitney. She was initially marketed to r&b audiences. It wasn't til her 3rd album that they turned middle of the road pop. And by the late 90s she was back to doing both simultaneously while helping push hip hop further into the mainstream. So there must have been another reason she wasn't played in your house.
