I definitely understand Brian's opinion on proxies and agree to some extent. Ive been playing old school for a while now and my local meta has no issues with proxies. I don't really see an issue with proxies as long as there not altered in any way from the original card. Owning the original card I'd better.

Good info my man. If you had to pick one service at this time which one would you go with? As a buyer I think BGS gives the grades that most accurately reflect the cards condition. Like you, I've seen so many cards in CGC slabs that were not deserving of it's grade. Which defeats the white purpose of grading the card in the first place

I won't argue about BGS, but I don't know why people get so triggered when comparing CGC with PSA. You can see a lot of PSA 10's are very off centered, because PSA allows 10's to be off centered up to a 60/40 proportion. CGC GM 10's are allowed to be 55/45 and Pristine 10's must be 50/50 (ideally, however). I also don't believe in the 'true 10' thing. All PSA 10's are 10's by their standards. All CGC 10's are 10's by their standards, and for every company is the same. Each company has different grading standards and that's something most people don't seem to understand. For what I've seen, at least with modern cards, PSA is more lenient in centering and corners while they're stricter in surface, CGC on the other hand seems to be the other way around. Of course all companies have flaws, so I think it's only a matter of preference. You want a perfect card, go for BGS black labels. You want a near perfect card, go for CGC Pristine. You want a 10 that could be anywhere between GM and perfect, go PSA.
@ed-steminator6688Ай бұрын
Bgs management fumbled at the 1 yard line. They were ready to change to the CGC scale and got scared. The lack of vision, proper introspective analysis of their business and acceptance of status quo has them becoming Mr Irrelevant. That is sad because 90% of my collection is BGS.
@vintagemagicАй бұрын
hmm interesting. yeah. there hasn't been a big news issue with BGS right? it must just be market sentiment? I think if sportscards (the core business) doesn't yield bgs card premiums then people will switch.

Very informative video. Rebecca Guay's art has been taking my breath away (literally) since 1996's Alliances & Mirage stellar pieces: Kaysa, Sustaining Spirit, Asmira, etc. Regarding grading, I still like the look of the Beckett metallic/foil labels...Looks like they're serious about what they're doing. CGC still looks low-budget to me. But the market is what the market is. Can't change that. Thanks again, Daniel!
@suigenerisgamesАй бұрын
I think you make a great point about the changing of the guard at Beckett. The knowledge transfer may have not been well preserved and they’ve been through several management changes in the last several years. Seeing CGC climb to 5x TCG grading (and maybe the Pristine 10 Lotus sale @ $3M) could have made them see the light. Their new pricing and marketing efforts might help, but they have a ways to go to earn back community trust. That being said, newer TCGs like OP and Lorcana are using BGS (still less than PSA/CGC) so maybe there is hope.
@vintagemagicАй бұрын
yeah, the trust off with bgs, but what they do to lose the trust?

@@vintagemagic Impossible grading periods (months to years), purposeful downgrading for population control, inconsistent grading, cheap labels bent across the middle, aging submission system, ZERO customer service, expensive grading prices (recently adjusted), lack of institutional knowledge across different TCGs, and questionable QA, to name a few.

What do you guys expect? Proxies and counterfeits have risen due to the insane prices of cards. More and more players use them I see them all the time and frankly the newer generation of players care less about authentic vintage cards. Elitist spoiled “collectors” horde these cards and corner the market and make it impossible for new players and most players to be able to try and enjoy them in their decks. I have some Power 9 yet I don’t feel the need to treat this game as an investment everyone has the right to play Beta or Unlimited cards and if exact replicas are their only way then so be it.

Very honest and sobering video. As someone who began playing in 1993, MTG was exciting and fun. We sat around tables during lunch or recess, or each other's homes on the weekend and played the game. We had Inquest, Scrye, and Duelist magazines. We created our 60 card decks and 15 card side boards based on our ingenuity and imagination. There was a lot of trial and error. I left Magic after the Urza's block for several reasons which all seem to have escalated: 1) Power Creep - too powerful of a card could upset the color balance and gameplay. 2) Too Many Expansions produced in too short of time. It became hard to keep up. 3) The lore and story of the lands and characters started to become diluted and diminished. Final Thoughts: MTG's value is almost completely reliant on the game staying around. If the game implodes, nobody will care about collecting in the future because the 40-year olds who played this great game as children will eventually pass away as Daniel stated. Sports cards aren't going anywhere because there is too much history and money involved. I hope MTG continues on, but Hasbro/Wizards must Make Magic Great Again! And as Daniel has mentioned, father's need to teach their sons the game. That is the way.

Lower / promotional pricing for specific sets is a good idea. Also, agree with you that the best way for PSA to gain TCG marketshare is lower their pricing and get more graded slabs out there in the marketplace.

i agree there is this magnification spotting, but to the normal buyer, these feel, look real. that is the major issue.
@kurtilein32 ай бұрын
@@vintagemagic I think the normal buyer is using 20x magnification and the few that do not are gamblers or we neglected to inform them. There is a group called Magic: The Gathering Counterfeit Detection. People post pictures, and people are asked to send pictures with high enough detail of the green dot, mana symbols and other details. Then its all about rosette patterns and registration and the extra solid black layer. They teach you the critical importance of being able to use a loupe. You are not being very educational here, implying the way to go is to crack cases and to then use known real examples to eyeball it. It is borderline deceptive. People look up to you and think they learned something, they think the way to go is to have tens of thousands of known real examples and exceptional eyesight, and you are withholding how easy it is to detect such a fake with a 7 dollar loupe that everyone needs to have. Its not even a good fake. A good fake is only detectable wih a loupe and passes your eyeball test. If you want to be educational, please show this under magnification and show people how to correctly use a 7 dollar 20x jewellers loupe. You can do better.
