Great work showing the realistic summer fishing around Auckland, and how to enjoy catching some smaller pannies in less than ideal conditions. Love your cruisy attitude. Good instructions on the micro jig method that not many people use (most just drop under the boat). I've got some Little Jack type 01 jigs which look exactly like a small anchovy. Amazing action on the drop, even with that soft bait style cast and hop back to the boat. It's sometimes great for us softbaiters to try something different.
@otklfnz6 күн бұрын
Ahhh exactly bro. People don’t quite realise about casting the micro and jigging/pitching back towards you. After having allot of success this way I decided to start casting them from the shore. Again people think they must be vertical but have had allot of success in my local estuary catching big Trevally casting from the sand. Love it. Thank you for your comments man. Epic 👊🏾

That's basically the best whitebait fritter recipe, but with snapper (though I'd use one yolk, three whites - keep the other yolks for extra strong scrambled eggs). Nice work. For another recipe to try - which is brilliant with humble kahawai: basic pan fry a few fillets and cool, break up into small pieces; cook approx the same quantity of mash potato; soften fry a finely chopped onion and add some crushed garlic near the end of the frying; mix all together in a bowl with a good dollop of crushed ginger, chopped fresh mint and salt and pepper - I add some crushed chilli or Kaitaia fire sauce if you like some kick. Make into small patties and pan fry until golden. You can panko crumb, or just pat in flour before frying. Delicious vaguely Thai/Asian flavour and a great way to cook kahawai (which is also great in a green Thai curry, or as sashimi if very fresh).

Beauty brother. The humble kahawai 👌🏽 I will try this one for sure. The Kaitaia fire 🔥 too heck yeah.

Hi, great video. Just wonderting do you need to keep backing the boat to hold? Or just drift?
@otklfnzАй бұрын
Hi mate thank you. Great question. You don’t have to keep backing the boat up, but it has benefit when fishing this deep that when you find the fish you try stay on them. When your jig weight vs line diameter enables you to stay vertical you can indeed just drift along. Lots of risk by drifting, when the bottom structure varies in depth you can get snagged easily.

Whos is the boat looks awesome is there actually a bunk under the wheel? Do you have to watch for spiking the pontoons?
@otklfnzАй бұрын
Hey mate, yeah Mike the skipper is a good friend of mine. The boat indeed has a bed under the console, toilet also. Yes have to be aware of fish spikes, but the pontoons are pretty thick so it’s not too bad. we strictly use a landing net anyway. Its is multi section pontoons also so if one lost pressure its no biggie.

Hey bro, thank you. I use a Kensai slow pitch rod PE3-5 from Catch with a prototype reel, its a narrow spool high speed with 500m of PE2 braid. Its rated up to 250g jigs but I use up to 300g on it. It was hitting 330m easy.🤙🏾
