The video is inaccurate. There's no clear threshold where a crank suddenly goes from unbalanced to balanced-stock cranks are technically still "balanced." Drilling random holes at a certain depth isn’t the way to achieve proper balance. I’m not here to plug my content, but the calculator I uploaded is what’s actually needed. Do the holes need to be perfect? Not perfect, but close. Drilling too high or low on the web affects the factor. Uneven holes between webs throw it off. Poor factory QC doesn’t justify poor work. For example, there's no minimum balance factor for cranks-I’ve seen them range from 20% to 32%. Going from 20% to 40% requires less mass removal than 20% to 50%. If your reciprocating mass is heavier, the required mass removal changes. Based on the video, I estimate: 1/2" bit at 13mm deep removes ~26g (both sides). 5/8" bit at 8mm deep removes ~16.6g. Total: ~43g removed. But you don’t know your starting point. If your 47mm top end averages 140g and your crank started at 30%, you'd now be around 63%-65%. You can’t justify misleading info by saying, “So-and-so did it, so I trust them,” or claiming “my engine magically gained 5k RPM.” Balancing a crank doesn’t increase HP or RPM-just smooths operation. To do it right, you need to: A) Determine your current balance factor. B) Calculate how much mass to remove (e.g., going from 23% to 50% with a 140g reciprocating mass means removing ~40g: 140g × 0.27 = 37.8g). I believe you mean well, and I respect that. But this kind of misinformation causes confusion. If you ever need help or clarification, I’m more than happy to assist-I love MBs and math.

I recently tried to upgrade to the 100cc 4 stroke. I loved it's power to get up hills. I put about 12 miles in a three day period. Only to the store and back. On the third day the clutch jammed up. When I got it home and looked inside the clutch was almost worn out the brass bushing was also worn. I think things were assembled incorrectly having too many spacers in the wrong place. I have the chain drive transmission. I don't want to return it and wait for replacement. I would rather rebuild it myself. The problem is I can't find the replacement parts ie: clutch, brass bushing and the washer spacers. Or if I must; an entire replacement transmission. Do you know where I can buy the parts?

I'm sorry to hear that. I've owned 3 of the 49cc 4-stroke kits with the similar belt drive transmission and every one of them has has required the clutch and brass bushing lubricated. If you don't lubricate them, the clutch and bushing burn out and basically shred themselves really quickly (probably what happened to you). From what I have seen, a lot of the transmission parts are synonymous with the 49cc belt drive, but I would make a post explaining your issue with pictures on the Facebook and Reddit motorized bike groups.

You can kinda see how I have the sprocket mounted: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZWtfKhtebaEj8Usi=bPv-bA5tMBDgl4G8&t=224 It's a sturdy solid disc brake mount hub and I have the sprocket bolted to the 6 bolt disc brake mount. This is one of the STURDIEST ways of doing it and BY FAR the easiest. The only hard part is spacing the wheel so the chain alignment is on point and to do this, youll need to remove the axle spacers and use a combination of them and other washers to get the desired alignment on your bike. After I did this, I also had to re-center the rim, which typically costs like $25 at your local bike shop.

Breaking in an engine really does have a lot of different views but the biggest factor is if you're the one paying for the engine then it's best to honor what the manufacturer says. That said, I'd treat engines by their value meaning I'd not have as much worry over a motorized bike as like a Harley or expensive car. That said, most the bike engines I've seen(I'm no expert) are basically junk from the manufacturer but that might even be more of a reason to go easy on the break-in unless you're able to tear down & repair an engine. I'm not so I'd treat an engine w/ kid gloves but if I had the tools/ability to tear down the engines I'd ride the piss outta my motorized bike & replace parts. I still have not found an engine for bikes that I trust which means I'll have to find a man like you to help me build a worthy motor. I'd never buy a bike berry motor but I'm still looking at motors/engines for a decent one. peace

From a 10-44 (4.4:1) to 8-48 (6:1) should be drastically different. Less max speed but way more low end torque. Assuming you’re using a centrifugal clutch. For example let’s say it’s a bike with 26 inch wheels. A 212cc at 4000rpm at 4.4:1 should get to 70mph on a light weight bike. Keep everything else the same except switch to 6:1 and looking at like 51mph. Assuming you’re using a straight chain set up. I wouldn’t even trust 4.4:1 on a bicycle with a pressure washer/mini bike engine- I’d be worried I’d burn the clutch out because even 19 inch mini bike wheels recommend 6:1.

@@buyerenogurlfwendo2106 In this video I went from a 10-48 (4.8:1) to an 8-44 (5.5:1), but then opted for the 8-48 (6:1). The 10-48 was just way too long and the 30 series CVT would never even half way engage. After shortening the gearing and playing with the engagement points, I got the CVT to engage better and it was capable of WELL over 60mph and had the torque to fling you off the bike. From my calculations, the thing would be capable of almost 90mph if the CVT fully engaged (over 115mph if not considering friction or my fat ass). Thanks for watching.

Am looking to build a bike that can do long distance trips. And preferably would like to just put normal gas into it. Would the avenger 85 work for that? Or is there another engine that would better suit my needs( perhaps the Honda gxh50 ?). Please let me now if this is within the realm of possibility and hopefully point me in the right direction. ( and I know an actual motorcycle would be the answer but for various reasons iam dead set on a bike. )
@a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665
@a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665 14 күн бұрын
The Avenger would be decent, but I would say the Honda GXH50 would be better for all out reliability, practicality, fuel mileage, ease of maintenance, and ride comfort. The Avenger would require premixing special oil into the fuel, emit somewhat unbearable vibrations for long trips, and sure the engine is capable of 50mph, but it would require stops every 30 minutes of riding (or so) so it wouldn't overheat. If you don't know how to tune a carburetor, you don't want a 2-stroke, however, the 4-stroke kits come (more-or-less) pre-tuned. The 4-strokes wouldn't require premixed gas, rides VERY smoothly, don't require a manually actuated clutch (just twist the throttle and go), doesn't really run the risk of overheating, and as long as you change the oil every and lubricate the clutch every 30 riding hours, there really isn't any maintenance. It does have a respectable speed of around 35 to 40mph, but it does require the wider cranks due to the wider width of the engine. As long as you do oil changes, the Honda clone could probably last forever. I gave one of these bikes to a homeless man and after 3 months he had put over 4k miles on it and the engine still ran like butter. For ride comfort, practicality, and reliability, you should definitely use a single-speed beach cruiser frame (like the Huffy Cranbrook or nel lusso). The frames are farn comfortable and absorbs a lot of the road bumps, handles really well, the thick steel frame is CRAZY sturdy, and is literally the bike these engine kits are designed to fit on (so it is SUPER easy to install one of these kits onto).
@BodiDelgrosse
@BodiDelgrosse 14 күн бұрын
@ thank you very much for the great reply. Have a few more questions if you don’t mind. Are there kits specifically for the Honda gxh50 engine? And when buying a Honda engine should I avoid buying one that ships from china or are they one of the clones you mentioned that are fine?
@a.m.bgarage.everydayprojec9665

@BodiDelgrosse A kit something like this: www.ebay.com/itm/405408940315?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=k5tpfx5jtcm&sssrc=2047675&ssuid&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY is completely fine. The Chinese engine in the kit might not be the exact quality as the genuine Honda, but still reliable enough to last thousands of miles in it's sleep and start first or second pull everytime. Maybe if you're a diehard Honda fan you could get the genuine Honda, but the $450 price difference doesn't seem worth it. Lol. You could quite literally buy 3 of these kits for the price of the genuine Honda engine.

Actually the 49cc engines are excellent engines when built right. No they arent speed monsters, but I have one that did 26mph out og the box with a 41T sprocket on a 26" wheel. The 49cc engines used to be widely used and they can be ported, balanced and geared right to achieve 30+ mph and super reliable. I have a friend in Georgia that had bike with the Gubee 49cc engines and he's gotyen 1000s of miles out of them. Not being a peckhead here, but I been biilding and tinkering with these engines since 2009 and I know for a fact the 49cc engines can be good little engines, yeah not neatly as powerful as the 66cc engine, but theyre reallly not any junkier in my experience they just seem that way because they dont have good power out of the box typically...
@mapbike
@mapbike 14 күн бұрын
First off I wanted to say you made a good video and I agree with all you said about the engines performing better overall grom simply have a better balance. After getting them balanced all the other mods make more difference and the better balance is gonna give the engine better longevity unless there is just a failure that was gonna happen regardless of the balance. on the "triple 40" engines I drill all the holes with a 1/2" bit. I drill a hole in between the existing holes in the crank 14mm deep rhen I space over 17mm from center of each factory hole and drill another 14mm deep.
