I made the mistake in Minnesota by purchasing Krugerands which are taxed here.

I flew from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv (Israel). Before flying, I called US customs and asked whether, for the purposes of the 10,000 declaration Gold Eagles were $50 or $1,000. This was in 2009. They said $50. In Israel at the time you were alloed to bring in cash up to ~$20,000. I had $6,000 in cash plus 6 gold eagles. I was stopped at customs in Israel and they seized the gold. I told them that whether you counted the eagles as $50 or as $1,000, I was still under the limit. They said no, they considered the gold to be "goods" raher than money. I was interrogated under caution, accused of money laundering, and ended up paying a huge fine.

Silver Eagles will be auctioned for the Boy Scouts. Fractional gold bars will melt into wedding rings for a generation of my family. Beyond my childhood greedy dragon horde, those were my only real stacking goals. It's in the safe. The will is updated regularly. My daughter knows. I stopped for a long time, I've already stacked a nice legacy to leave. Cards and comics started my collecting bug, nephew gets that box.

If you take advantage of at spot offers and go to the deals, 1 oz silver can be much cheaper. If you're stubborn about the type of coin, you're gunna pay more. For being new Ive gotten 1 or 2 at apot offers and some philharmonics on sale at 1.99 over spot.

While these are compact and look great, it's harder to sell. Who would have over 100k CAD on hand to buy a kilo of gold from you if you needed the money. not your LCS. And conversely how hard would it be for them to find a buyer for a kilo. That's why smaller 1oz coins are best. You can sell 32 coins in different shops easily in a day which is 1 kilo. Much more easily sellable.
