This is fine and dandy, buit it's a lot more difficult when the drip line is lying in the dirt or behind a bunch of bushes. You can't possible add a post like this for an esisting line

FYI, the "Barbs" on the funny pipe fittings are actually threaded, meaning that you can screw on the funny pipe to the fitting - instead of trying to push them on. Depending on what manufacturer fitting you have. The ones at MY Home Depot have the threaded ones.

I ordered 4 Hunter Pro-Spray 360 degree sprayers, only to realize when I got them today that I still had 3 brand new Rainbird 1800s in my garage from last year's personal obsession with my house's aging irrigation system. It seems like the Hunters are the way to go although I will certainly find a use for these Rainbirds.

I live in SE Florida and unfortunately everyone here has the “rusty water” problem. These types of nozzles will clog up every few weeks and the best way to clean them is to take them out and dunk them in muriatic acid which instantly dissolves the rust without damaging the plastic. Unfortunately it’s a PITA to deal with this constantly. Any sprinklera like this that are more “forgiving” with rusty water?

I wonder if a filter at the beginning of the system might filter the iron effectively and be less work to clean on a regular basis? I’m not aware of any special heads for heavy iron water.

Perhaps having rotary heads might be the solution versus pop-ups.
@Onewayto2024

@@thesprinklerchannel Thank you for the very fast response! A filter would work on particulate matter. The problem is the water has dissolved iron in it, so it’s not possible to filter it out. As the sprinklers get used over time, water evaporates in the heads in the hot Florida sun and leaves minute iron deposits. Every time the sprinklers run and water evaporates, the deposits increase until they clog these very small heads.

@@thesprinklerchannel Do rotary heads do what the name implies, in other words do they rotate? I use the small spray heads in flower beds and take great pains to keep “head spray” off my exterior walls. A rotating head would make a rusty mess ☹️. Sorry for my being such a naysayer.

Very good tutorial however I would have like to see you do this procedure with a real valve in the ground. Will a defective solenoid cause a zone to keep running at half output when another zone is operating?
@bookoobeans
@bookoobeans 10 күн бұрын
Yes but it would still run even when all other zones are off, or timer is off. Otherwise you might have an electrical issue.
@Limbofishful
@Limbofishful 10 күн бұрын
@@bookoobeans Turns out the only problem needing an adjustment was the volume screw next to the solenoid. It was wide open. Research told me to have the sprinklers running then close the volume screw just enough to see the spray getting smaller. Stop there, no more adjustment. Zone turns off when next zone activated. Now I have a clean diaphragm and all is good.

You can also just get a flexible line instead of a rigid PVC riser. They sell them at home Depot or Lowe's and they allow a little flex. Your sprinkler bodies shouldn't be that loose in the ground where a mower breaks it.

Yes you can, just not too close to each other and as long as the pressure is sufficient, which typically isn’t a problem if designed correctly.

You could try that as well as the soak and cycle feature on your sprinkler clock, shorter times but then runs through again in order to give it time to soak in.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought this would solve my problem, but I didn't. I have a Rainbird 5000plus that doesn't spin. It comes up when watering, but only sprays in one direction. I can adjust the radius with the screw, it can be turned from right to left and back. I took out the head and cleaned it with water and found no abnormality, put it back, but it does not turn. Water pressure is fine, other heads work fine. What could be the reason?

Solenoids can go bad, you can swap with another to test but more often it is corrosion in wire connections especially if not using silicon wire nuts.

Not super versed on all the electrical specs. Might be better off asking electrical engineer but I would imagine you’d be safe with a thicker gauge versus a thinner gauge wire. I’m used to just using the standard sprinkler wire and valves

Great video! A couple ?? 1) to move the left stop clockwise - the reverse of what you did - going from 9 to 8 o’clock - you have to turn it counter clockwise 7,6,5….10,9, right? 2) I’ve seen pros twist the head counterclockwise to move the left stop like you did. But while sprinkler is working. I think I read that you shouldn’t do it with water on. Thoughts?

Is "funny pipe" the same thing as "swing pipe?"
@thesprinklerchannel
@thesprinklerchannel Ай бұрын
No, swing pipe is referred to in similar function of sprinkler system but usually is made of schedule 80 with elbow fittings and allows more directions for the head to swing - left right, back and forth, up and down.

Why not use 3/4” funny pipe instead of half inch? By going 1/2” you are effectively reducing the water flow to that sprinkler head, right?

You may want to edit this video to add in some B-Roll close-up footage of the exact way to install that nozzle. Do you drop in the lower portion first or the upper portion of that red nozzle first and then snap it in place? You state a couple times the “45-degree angle” but you don’t tell us whether the bottom of that red nozzle goes in first or the top. I think some B-Roll close-up video there would clarify that and make it crystal clear. Nice video. Keep up the good work.

I have a white wire that’s been cut and I found it when the pipe near it got a leak. I think the guy who worked on my system cut both but I just found it. My system has 7 zones. Your wires are all in that nice black sheath, this white wire is super tiny and just laying nearby all on its own. I haven’t even found both ends. So frustrating. Can you tell me what to look for when I go to Lowe’s because I’m going to need more wire, I think I’ll have trouble getting ends to meet otherwise but not sure what wire I’ll need. I have the wire caps with grease inside then go into a larger encasement.
