Your going to ruin your iron. Seasoning needs some tooth to hold onto. Season it once or twice then just cook on it everyday. Within a months time it will be jet black and slicker than greased glass.

You can use the hand tool that holds circular sanding discs to smooth it out. I use the Diablo sanding discs that are like a net. It takes a bit, but you can do it while watching TV or otherwise relaxing. You also may want to heat the pan to seasoning temperature to induce any fractures, that would occur later, between grits of sand paper

80 Grit is as high of grit as you should go. It's not going to give you a better non stick surface and if its a polished finish you are going to have to season it more often. It does look better but you get a worse pan.

If it is a front shaft it is fine . if you have dents if you know how , the dents can be popped out with hydraulics . You just by drilling a hole .
@midwestwelding6807
@midwestwelding6807 Жыл бұрын
You should not do that at all. Any dent will create a stretch in the tube. Sure it can be shrunk but that requires heat. The heat then brittles the material. The hole you are taking about drilling is just as bad. Not only are you making the tube weak with the initial hole but there is also no great way to weld it shut when finished. It would be impossible to weld that hole shut and keep the weld perfectly flush on the inside. The weld also creates a bunch of heat in a confined area of the tubing yet creating another brittle section. The problem with this however is this particular brittle area is backed up with a more rigid chunk of material being the weld itself. Depending on the size of hole and method in which you weld it you can also run into issues of permanently deforming the tubing even worse than the initial dent. We use heat in some cases to pull gradual bowing out of tubing by heating it and quickly cooling it to shrink the high spots into a more linear arrangement down the length of the shaft. Welding in some random part of the tube will end in a similar effect. The heat from the weld will stretch and deform the tube then the fill of the weld will attach at various positions while the tubing is stretch out of shape. Once the weld cools it will pull the tubing in various directions relative to how it cools. I would not recommend drilling shafts to anyone especially to pull a dent.

@@midwestwelding6807 The hole gets drilled threw the center of the yoke not the tube . The tube is filled with water to about 1/16 from the top of the hole . You then jig it up in a hydraulic press and put a piece of slick rod as close of a fit as you can . and start pressing down . The water will not compress and will push the dent out . I got the Idea from John Taylor' s book , African rifles and cartridges . He said a guy ran over the barrels of a very expensive double rifle and bent the barrels like a horse shoe .The guy with no hope took it to a African bush gunsmith . The gunsmith filled the barrels up with water put a wooden dowel rod in the muzzle and two guys hammered the dowel rod with a sledge hammer and when they were done it shot better than new . I was around 18 and bent my front drive shaft like a horse shoe . I said , " what the hell it aint much good any way " So I did what was mentioned above and it worked . I guess I was to young and stupid not to know it would,t work . Front shaft I would say try it . Rear shaft replace it

Assuming the dent is the weakest spot and water under pressure "pops out" the dent before the tube splits, then how is the water removed from the tube?
@huckstirred7112
@huckstirred7112 Жыл бұрын
@@johne189 First you build a very sturdy jig .The shaft has to stand up right and needs about a half inch of wiggle room . A 2x4 in between the yokes ears .The bottom of the jig is all about protecting the yoke . For a spline shaft Drill a hole in a 4x4 . Your jig has to be connected to the press .It will want to fly out .Don't skimp on the jig .. Drill a hole dead center between the yokes ears. Around 9/16 . The shaft has to be mounted in the jig standing up right when you fill it up. . I JB welded a bolt that I drilled out the threads around the whole .Fill to the top with water .Tap the shaft up and down to release any air bubbles . Put a close fitting piece of slick rod in the hole and crank your press down .Water does not compress that dent or bend will push right out .When every thing is strait just turn it upside down dump out the water tap drilled hole screw in a plug ,or weld it up .Done this 4 times one front drive shaft bent almost horse shoe real tough to jig but straitened up perfect

@huckstirred7112 Жыл бұрын
@@johne189 The tube will never split from the hydraulic pressure because it is round . All the pressure is on that dent .If your tube has a tear water will squirt out and won't build up pressure .You would probably bust your jack before that tube splits .The dent will always pop out .

Exactly, I’m a John Deere tech and honestly to me it looks like the customer or the shop maintaining it didn’t grease them. Or it’s off a older machine and it’s normal wear.
@midwestwelding6807
@midwestwelding6807 Жыл бұрын
Might seem like normal wear but as far as pto shafts go these run at pretty extreme angles for any u joints especially ones this small. Inside clip style joints also lack any extra material around the caps making them more prone to stretching. Grease and normal wear and tear do not really account for the tubing being beat up and bent either. The other trouble I have with these is that they spin far too fast for being impossible to balance. There is too much play in telescoping spline section that the speed in which they operate beats them to death. You may not think this is a manufacturer issue but a pto shaft made for a certain arrangement of proprietary equipment should easily be able to last more than a season or two. The amount of these with the same troubles I see in a given season is only normal because that’s the way it has always been not because the design is good.
