The Hawk was kinda the forgotten man coming up at the same time as the Big 4. I believe was a 2 division champion. I love watching him fight. Tommy is so young there you can hardly recognize that it’s him.Cool video…😎

Lost all respect for Aaron Pryor with the brown bottle incident involving Panama Lewis. The referee, Stanley Christodoulou, should have been banned from boxing after that fight.

I can't believe I ran across this fight thank you UTUBE ? Especially because I was training at the KRONK GYM back in "1976" I trained there on and off over a span of three years ? I have fond memories of Thomas Hearns, Mickey Goodwin,Dwan Thomas, Jimmy Paul, and most of all "Emanuel Steward" 🤗 I Loved Boxing and wanted to make a career out of it ? BUT ☹️ Life happened ? I remember the night when KRONK went PRO ? I was 17 and there at the old Olympia Stadium with my Dad & brother Chuck ! Back in November 1977 😳 and Mickey Goodwin was the headliner that night ? While THOMAS HEARNS was the "CO-HEADLINER" !!! They both won their professional debut by knockouts ! Boy do I have some really great memories of those days ? I remember "SUGAR RAY LEONARD" Was there signing autographs ? He had just won the GOLD MEDAL the year before at the "76" OLYMPICS in MONTREAL CANADA !!!

I’m sorry but the stamina of Aaron Pryor simply was not normal. No matter how good you are, if someone just keeps coming at you swinging constantly, no matter how hard you hit them, you’re eventually going to wear down. (Alexis Arguello)Pryor’s stamina was inhuman. You could almost call it an unfair advantage . The only person that I believe could’ve withstood that and returned punishment was Marvin Hagler, who also had an “unfair “ advantage”because nothing could hurt him or stop him from moving forward (see the John “The Beast” Mugabi fight). Pryor’s stamina and perpetual punching was super human.

As a amateur Hearns wasn't a great puncher. He sure changed that after he turned pro
Does it look like Joe outweighs him by that amount
@davidmoser353514 күн бұрын
Aaron was like a perpetiual windmill machine. You could hit him 10 times in a row, and it wouldnt slow him down a bit. Hearns as a pro might have been the most overall talented boxer I ever saw. However, I felt Emmanuel Stewart wasnt a particularly good trainer. If Angelo Dundee had trained Hearns to develope that reach advantage, that left jab early on, and to develope defense tactics, with counterpunching, I dont think Tommy would have ever lost.
@nicholasd6214 күн бұрын
Towering young Hearns got in a few rights in the 3rd, lost this one though. He was too thin and weak at 132 for shorter and stronger and more muscular Pryor.

Under professional rules, this would be a draw. 10-8 Tyson R1, and 10-9 Tillman x2. 28-28 Draw.

Your dad was a great fighter beating them both ? Hearns & Pryor who would both go on to become great professional champions ! I have some great memories of those days of long ago ? I'm 65 now ? But 50 years ago I started training at the KRONK GYM as a 15 year old ? I knew all those KRONK fighters before they turned pro ? I trained there on and off until "1979" ? Anyway I just wanted to coment on how great your father was ? The great "HOWARD DAVIS JR" 🥊
@Michael-p2i5 күн бұрын
Yeah Howard's style was more made for the amateurs. You can outpoint opponent with light punches and get the victory. They didn't count the punches effectiveness. A jab counted just as much as a big right hand.thats probably why Tommy and Aron went on to have much more distinguished careers than Howard.

Hearns became one of the GREATEST. Pryor won fights but excelled in only two fights against Arguello. Drugs and other demons kept him from becoming an all time great.

I remember going to Pryor girlfriend house to work a insurance claim his girlfriend Teresa was trying to hit on me while the hawk AP was upstairs sleeping she wasn’t that fine I said no I think she was trying to get me to take care of her claim but I never did meet Arron but I was a fan he was a great fighter until he let her run his business she broke him he trusted her. He didn’t have any education or any wisdom. He just knew how to fight. There is a lot more to the story I also lived in Cincinnati Oh now I’m living in Jacksonville Fl I still have family and friends there I remember when AP got clean I was there he had did some time locked up he messed up a few times but he didn’t give up he kept trying until he got it he died clean and sober R I P CHAMP 🥀

Pryor would have been hell for Hearns to beat even at 147. By the time Hearns right comes Pryor is already under it and the fact that he is a combo puncher. Also the mist stamina of any fighter we seen maybe Sanchez why Leonard stood far away and knew better
