How much effect do the copper radio interference tabs have? I have about a half of one, on only one side left.
@woodsandbarclay4 сағат бұрын
I really don't know. I'm sure they really don't do much. Keep in mind this was back in the day when people were listening to AM radio more. I think it would probably be fine without them. They may not even be related to the radio and could be little grease scrapers that scrape grease inside the dust cap. I've never really fully figured these out. I just always installed them because that's the way they came from the factory.

Whenever doing the AC do you ever change the expansion valve?
@woodsandbarclayКүн бұрын
You really only need to change the expansion valve if the compressor or dryer were damaged and blew shrapnel through the system. This is original R12 car and a new compressor and dryer were installed and charged with R12. There was no damage in the existing lines and the compressor did not come apart so there's absolutely no reason to change the expansion valve. Sometimes when I do an r134 conversion I do change the expansion valve. It's completely dependent on the condition of your vehicle and what you're doing as to if you have to change the expansion valve. If you go to the website you can see me doing the AC system on this car.

Is that the right color for the rocker panels? Were those jack plugs really original?
@woodsandbarclayКүн бұрын
Yep that's the original color and the original plugs. Mercedes had a few different colors they would use on rocker panels depending on the body color of the car. Most of the time they used a primer gray color

How bad is it leaking is it just a dime or quarter size spot under driveway? If that's the case don't worry about it just run the car it's not going to hurt anything. How bad a leak are we talking? If it's not horrible you just check your oil and make sure you keep her topped off. All classic cars leak a little oil.

A friend of mine had one of these models years ago, but I don't remember what year it was. I'm not sure how many years they made this body style. Anyway, she wanted me to drive us somewhere in it, and I was surprised at how quiet it was inside. My 85 300d was pretty loud at 80 mph. Do you ever get any 350sdl models? I think they are 6 cylinder diesels if I remember right. Now, that should be a highway cruiser.
@woodsandbarclay5 күн бұрын
I think they stopped making this body design in 1990. It started in 1981. Regarding the 350 sdl you really don't see any more of those on the road because they had a severe engine design flaw and the connecting rods would often bend. Really the last great year for the classic diesel Mercedes was 1985.

Love your work man. Quick question for someone like me who knows nothing about cars. Please explain the reason behind valve adjustments?Thank you
@woodsandbarclay9 күн бұрын
If the valves are adjusted wrong it affects the amount of air fuel mixture that is pulled into the cylinder and also affects how much exhaust gases are pushed out of the cylinder. You want the optimal amount of both so you adjust the valves to optimize this.
@leonardmmofsoa13649 күн бұрын
@@woodsandbarclay now my W123 230E gasoline model. when I drive to a speed of 120km/h I would normally feel I am pushing the car. Could that be one of the reasons that value adjustment is needed? Thank you.
@woodsandbarclay9 күн бұрын
I do not work on the gas cars and I have no experience with them but yes the same concept applies if your valves are not automatically adjusting. Modern hydraulic lifters automatically adjust. However your car may require manual valve adjustments just like the diesels but I do not know so do some research.@@leonardmmofsoa1364
