Wow! This is brilliant to look back on. 'Pop singing cannot last as long as being an actress'. OMG, how wrong was the world then!

It's a curious situation, you'd think that with its continuing popularity in the UK there'd be a way to continue funding it. I'm also surprised that no other UK broadcaster came forward to stump up the cash and poach it. The ending of the show has created a big buzz, there's obviously still a market for it.

@97channel If only the BBC kept it cause if it did then it wouldn't have faced the axe. Instead it wasted money on pathetic and rubbish shows such as Strictly, Pointless, The One Show, The Apprentice, new Doctor who since 2005, and Waterloo Road, 2001 was the last time the BBC was at its peak, it's been dead ever since.

They tried to find a partner, in multiple countries, but nobody would buy into it. They even tried streaming platforms but they didn't find it profitable.

Very interesting to see the master tape, complete with countdowns into each segment (well, except part two for some reason!). The BBC didn't do a bad job of re-editing them and covering up the burnt-on captions at each break point with scene-setting shots, or swapping scenes around to disguise the breaks.

I don't know why she was told it was originally a French surname, since it comes from gaelic word for 'monk !

I thought her surname was Irish to be sure. I thought her dads ancestors were sent to australia from Ireland cos they committed a crime or saink

It's perfectly acceptable that 'Minogue' may have Gaelic French/Irish origins. The Irish were everywhere in the Dark and Middle Ages. In Spain, and especially France. Gaelic influence remains to this day.
