Brilliance of the Seas is definitely NOT in a class of its own its three sister ships (Radiance, Serenade, and Jewell) are virtually identical to it. I have sailed on all of them.

I just finished a cruise from December 17 to 21 to Cozumel and Progreso on the Islander of the Sea. Our cabin, 4206, was infested with roaches.🤮🤢

Best Ship in the RCL Fleet. Actually the Jewel of the Seas is just as nice. Between both ships I spent over 50 nights on these ships. Australia , Tasmania , French Polynesia , British Isles , Canada and the Caribbean. Best Crew , perfect sized ship , Great Food , Great Shows , it's just as you described .

If you think 2002 is too old for a cruise ship, that's a problem. I would say talk to old folks, 55 up or anyone who has cruised decades past because the view of many cruisers today on what is old is distorted. The Brilliance of the Seas is a modern ship. I think an old class is the Carnival Fantasy class, not this cruise ship. Cruise ships are floating buildings. I hardly going into hotels or clubs and think, boy, this isn't build since 2018 so it's too old to enjoy. Does that make any sense? And if it doesn't why should it with ships? You can refurbish worn parts and redesign some truly dated parts. Ships should last many decades, not just 2. They can sail 30 plus years. So many cruisers today have no idea of what an "old" ship really is AFAIC.

The prices seem reasonable on this and other older ships also. As someone else pointed out the mega ships have such long lines and the pools reach capacity on sea days. We did a group cruise and everyone has agreed it did not feel like a relaxing vacation with so many people and having to wait wait wait everywhere you go. No more Royal mega ships for us. We are trying one of Carnival's big ships in two weeks hoping it wont feel so busy.

Crowding has to do with design and size of venue for its purpose, not so much overall size of ships. You can have a lot of crowds, especially by pools but any popular venue on any size ship. And the space ratio, passenger to gross tonnage, can determine that best. The term "megaship" is meaningless to me because the size of ships keep growing to much bigger than they were. So today's megaship may be a "mid sized" ship in 10 years. At one time the 101,000 Grand Princess was considered a really big ship and the 138,000 ton Voyager of the Seas a monstrosity. Now 138,000 tons is seen as midsized.

The older ships are also not so crowded. We did Icon of the Seas and my entire family agreed never again, such long lines and people constantly pushing and shoving you everywhere.
