Not at all. If you watch the later videos, you'll see me climbing all over the shed frame -- the tensioned bows make the frame strong for the amount of wood used, and the blocks between the bent sides of the bow hold the bow itself rigid.

Translation: Hello. I am also trying to make a structure from such arches. There is a problem. If there is even a small knot on the rail, the rail breaks. How did you solve this problem? Yes, this is indeed a challenge! I broke a few arches when bending them, too, this is actually to be expected. I don't think it's a good idea to reinforce the wood for the arch, as this will probably compromise the arch. My strategy was to try and find the wood in bundles that had the least amount of knots, buy more than needed, and only use the very best pieces of wood for the arches. The pieces with knots, save those for the horizontal and diagonal bracing, because those pieces you can reinforce if you need to. Good luck!

If you get an old hot water heater paint it black leave it in the sun, 12v (very minimal power requirements) air pump to pressurize it. I used a pump from an old volkswagon camper van, then you can pump that water through an actual shower head and have a normal outdoor/indoor shower. I actually got two low flow shower heads and it was enough to pump them at the same time. I like being enveloped in the water when its cold out... plus you can invite someone to shower at the same time. Before I got the 12v pump I made a chamber out of pvc and used a bike pump to pressurize the tank. It would take 30 pump to get a decent shower. One other not is the tank was elevated by about 10 ft in relation to the shower that was 50 ft away from it. I like your commitment to this endeavor you are on. Spending that much time alone can be healthy and tough because no one around to project on. What keeps you from getting someone to share in your off grid life? Seems like it would be nice to have some help. This movement of returning back to homestead life it growing and there are lots of women who would enjoy living this way. I know that comes with a different set of difficulty but its a tradeoff that might help those cold Maine nights.

Tanslation: Unfortunately, I don’t understand why there are so many 1000 liter containers. But I think I’ll see in the future. I thought I mentioned it somewhere in the series, but to clarify: cut firewood takes time to season before it's ready to be burned -- about half of the containers will contain freshly cut wood, still in the seasoning process, and the other half will contain wood that has already seasoned from previous years. And if I accidentally bought too many, they will be easy to re-sell ;)

Partial translation: Good morning, I would like to know. How did you treat the wooden arches themselves against rot or did you not treat them with anything? I did not treat the arches themselves at all, they have no contact with the ground, and the moisture is low in the shed because I keep it open most of the time. I did stain the bottom seals, since they are close to the ground, and the stakes that hold the frame to the ground are pressure-treated wood, which should prevent rot.

Translation: In winter, does the snow slide off the greenhouse on its own or does it have to be brushed off? Great question! Sometimes it sticks at the very top, and a simple bump on the inside of the plastic shakes it off. That might not even be necessary, but I've been pretty conservative about snow pileup on my buildings, because the last thing I want is for them to collapse!

Hi Chad! Nice to see you hard at work. I like your definition of systems; I first heard of systems in psychology as “a collection of coping behaviors that help reduce chaos for an individual” and realize this can be done for personal DIY projects as well. Chaos reduction is my #1 goal for this year… obviously as you said chaos is inevitable and we can never get it down to 0, but I’d at least like to reduce it.

Your level of introspection can only come from a software developer. I used to work at blackberry. I remember spending months making a date picker control that was then never used. Talk about thinking what using your time valuably means.... When I turned 50 I bought land and am almost done my 1.5 story cabin. Feels so good to use my HANDS to make something I can see. My rule is I do it all myself. I had to pay somone to do the culvert becasue the towhship didn't allow diy. Everything else I've done by myself. I've brought every 2x4 in my truck and carried every piece by hand to the build sight.
