Even though this tutorial was done 9 years ago, the process still works! I am using an old version of Maya (2017). The one thing I’ve found is that whatever mesh you decide to rebind to the skeleton and then import the weight maps, make sure that the mesh has the same name as the mesh that was used when the weights were exported. Otherwise, the old weights maps won’t “attach”.

So you animate the hips first, then add the constraints?
@AnimationMethods Жыл бұрын
Yes. The constraints only follow what is moving, but you could do the constraints then animate the hips. Doesn’t matter when you do the constraint setup. It will still work.

please tell me what if the hands are animated first to grab the box, move and then drop the box. how would the constraints be in that case?
@diegoquintanilla4190 Жыл бұрын
Before the character grabs the box the hands will have to be in FK, in that way the constraints won't affect the hands. When the character grabs the box just switch to IK and keep animating.

Hi. A few years ago, you posted a video on your channel which showed your full workflow. It included acting and was set to an audio clip that included something like "I work with the customers so the engineers don't have to. I have people skills. I am good at dealing with people..." It seems that you have set this video to private. I used this clip in my teaching every year because it is an excellent example of all of the stages in an animation workflow. Would it be possible to make this video public again, or even just set it to unlisted so I could still get to it? Many thanks - Shane

I'd like to thank you for teaching me the basics of 3D animation and Maya. Unfortunately, due to all the data collection, privacy issues, frequent crashes, and things like autodesk genuine service (basically malware I can't uninstall even after uninstalling autodesk products), I'm friggin done with subscription software. I've since switched over to Linux, and have been learning the ropes around Blender and Gimp, instead of Maya and Photoshop. I'll still watch your videos though ;)
@AnimationMethods2 жыл бұрын
I understand. Learning animation is not software specific so any principles or ideas you learn from me you can always apply to any other software. I only teach Maya because it’s the animation industry standard.

Thank you for the great tutorial, it's really helpful. Just one question, how do you find your key pose when you have to do a client correction in any pose in the whole body, coz you know it must be quite complicated to find the keys right for the whole body pose right, so how do you maintain it . Thanks
@AnimationMethods2 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. I only offset the keyframes at the end of my animation. Once I'm happy with the poses and timing I did at the beginning, only then I'll start doing the offsets. Open your Dope Sheet to check your keyframe timing. If you need to adjust the pose I would use the Graph Editor to scale multiple curves.
