So I have done multiple tests and while I respect your explanations those do not seem to apply to my GFX cameras. In the sense that DR setting does affect the RAW directly. I understand what you meant regarding the JPG conversion where the camera does offer you to apply the DR setting to produce the JPG but this is a a different process that the DR setting when shooting and producing the RAW. I can clearly see a difference when editing the RAW versions of a same scene with constant lighting (street at night with only a lamp post to lit the scene. I can recover more the highlights in the RAW shot with DR400 than with DR100 or DR200. I am obviously not talking about simply looking at the embded JPG ( as you mentioned in another post). I am talking about actually moving the highlight recovery cursor in the development module. That is all the proof that RD setting affect the production of the RAW. The 3 RAW files are clearly not the same. Even Kim Kasson wrote a blog post with the RAWDigger graphs illustrating that. When testing on my X-T5, I can confirm it worked the same way.

I believe you‘ll find that incandescent (tungsten) bulbs will flicker a lot more than good-quality LED ones, as the latter require a capacitor as part of the AC/DC rectifier which will reduce or eliminate voltage level change caused by AC. LEDs do flicker, but this is induced by the electronics to reduce power consumption - this should be a frequency beyond that captured by the camera shutter.

DR settings modify displayed ISO. When using DR400 @ ISO 1600, the camera is actually shooting at ISO 400 and pushing 2 stops (you are not shooting à 1600 and pushing). In modern cameras, pushing shadows and using higher ISO is essentially the same, resulting in the same amount of noise. So yes, ISO 1600 @ DR 100 = ISO 1600 @ DR 400 in terms of noise. Actually, the ISO 1600 @ DR 400 will have slightly less noise in the higher tones were you are not lifting the exposure.

I bought this as my first ever DSLR 5 months ago. I bought it for 150euro in mint condition with only ~2000 shutter count. So far, I shot with nikkor 18-70mm (~50euro) and I didn't really like the image quality even if it's upgraded kit lens. Do you have any recommendations for standard zooms that would perform better? Indeed I did cheap out on lens but i'm simply not sure what to get because at the time, better standard zooms would all cost 4x more. Overall, this camera body is 9/10 for beginners, much better than what Canon and Sony offer at this pricepoint. Only things I don't like about this body is questionable build quality (some parts are great but some are made very poorly) and no flip screen.

Hi Danilo! Thank you for asking. Have you considered its native AF-S 18-55mm or AF-P 18-55mm. I have compared these lenses (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH-Tep18j8mXnNU). One of the sharpest lens that I very much like to use with D3300 is the AF-S 50 mm F/1.8 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mauUmmZuj6yEa7c). It's a full frame lens but it works so well with the D3300 - very sharp indeed. If you want better image quality then prime lenses are better. Kind regards!

@@33antonius Maybe it's only my perception, this is my first DSLR and maybe I have too high expectations that everything will be sharp even at 100% zoomed in. As for settings, I shoot RAW with denoise off, active d-light off and every other assistance off as well as neutral post process preset (although I think all these apply only to JPGs). I use AF-A (both single servo and continuous modes), Single center focus point when shooting with viewfinder (85% of the time) and normal/face detect when shooting with live screen. I will definitely get either 35mm either 50mm prime because they are much better performers in low light and sharpness, I just haven't decided which one yet. 35mm is definitely more versatile but 50mm is better for portraits and looks sharper on tests and reviews.

@@danilojonic7924 These are light cameras. To avoid image blur use the 18-55 VR II. Otherwise you need to use 1/250sec and higher ISO. JPEG's standard fine with sharpness to 7 and active daylighting on produce better results than I am able to achieve in lightroom with RAW. - 0,3 exposure correction, base ISO around 200. F8. Do this and the images will be super sharp and comparable to d610 with primes RAW and so on (except for higher ISO' s of course). Let us know!

Hello everyone at TomPhoto, subscribers and team. What great news for us. I used Gimp for many years in my last job to enhance product photos and make graphics, etc., but I didn't know about this nice feature. After a period of illness that changed my life, I stayed at home a lot and started photographing as a hobby (nine months ago). I learned a lot from your channel. The modern Nikon lenses I have are good because distortion correction is included in the firmware, but I also have two vintage manual lenses and a surprisingly good little Yongnuo 35mm f/2 (hard to believe the image quality for the price) and now I can fix the distortion thanks to your video. I especially like your production style and narration. It's very well done. Your photos are also very good. Wow, the first photo in this video here... You have the best voice and accent for this job. I have four copies of the XF 18-55. They are only good at close focusing distances, for people and the like. Towards infinity, they are all faulty - with weird field curvatures in different areas of the frame. This lens cannot be recommended for landscapes.

@GiovanniBausC
@GiovanniBausC 9 күн бұрын
@@tom_photo Thank you! Just discovered your sharpness diagrams in your other video. These seem to confirm that there‘s something weird going on because you need to stop down to f10 to get somehow reasonable results from the 18-55. At f10, you basically enter the realm of hyperfocal distance which effectively masks out any effects of field curvature, but is close to the diffraction limit already. That said, the 18-55 works magnificently for me at closer distances. It‘s just with landscapes that each of my copies exhibits different drops of sharpness within the image - or areas which are front-focused, also depending on focal length. But I tested only up to f8. Too bad, I really loved the idea of having a small but fun and powerful second system with my X-T3 and the 18-55. Btw. with the XF 50mm f2 my X-T3 delivers tack-sharp images even at wide apertures. So it‘s not the camera. Interestingly, the 18-55 seems to be significantly better on the X-T20, more than the difference of less than 3 MP would suggest. I must admit that I‘ve tested my 4th sample of the 18-55, which I received just recently, only with IS on so far - will do another comparison with IS off shortly.

After I watched one of your earlier videos on the x-a1, about two years ago, I got one from mpb uk for about £70 in quite good condition. Now the price of the x-a1 and the x-m1 are very high. Maybe you can try to get an x-a10 or x-a20 even though those don’t have a hot shoe? I find the x-a20 faster, has an electronic shutter, and the selfy option and it’s got more colour options for manual focus peaking. So I find it good for travel. My copies have all been sharpest at F8, which certainly limits its usability in low light. Not used the camera in a while but dusted it off again just now in conjunction with also aquiring a Canon EOS700 DSLR from a friend and the little Fuji still a great camera for sure. Only thing with it is the sensor is a bit noisy so at higher ISO esp in low light the images tend to get quite grainy.
