Petrol version Rav-4 has better AWD system. It seems Toyota Hybrid AWD performs really poor in compare to petrol or diesel of very same model year as shown here.

When are you posting this new video?? I would really like to see the new update as we have the 2018 hybrid and the awd system has done a great job in the snow even on a steep incline.

You can find an explanation about i-awd in Toyota forum. Rear motor works in full power when car drives faster than 5km/h.

You need 4x4 when you stuck
@moonsapling2 жыл бұрын
The AWD-i shines when you treat the car like a FWD model. The rear motor may not be as powerful but it does enough work to relieve some load of the front wheels. That helps significantly. Yes, this generation of RAV4s struggle with diagonals but with a bit of momentum I have seen this car do wonders! Snow and sand arent a problem for it either.
@lkraujelis2 жыл бұрын
Agree! I could have passed those places with a bit of speed easily. However it’s is more interesting doing it slowly ;)

When you have momentum you can make it with 4x2. We buy 4x4's because we don't want to risk getting stuck where there is no cellphone coverage and you have to call expensive offroad recovery.
@moonsapling9 ай бұрын
@@fheyo As I said this car is way more capable than a regular 4x2 one. It was never meant to be a serious offroader, just enough to take you through snow storms and to a camping spot with insane fuel economy.
@fheyo9 ай бұрын
I've seen roller test on this car. I can buy this car if I go to places I've been before and I know for sure that it won't rain. There are some roads I get from gps. Out in the wildernes you never know when the conditions are serious or not. You need 4x4 system when you stuck, not when you are travelling 5-10 km per hour. Once there was a concrete bed river crossing with 30-40 cm of muddy water, I couldn't cross it with my Volvo S40 4x2. With this car I also wouldn't cross the same place. The wilderness expoloring world is not seperated into two categories as serious and not serious offroading. There are some grey areas in between when you go out to the mountain roads not regularly maintained. For the fuel economy; we need to add battery cost, second hand value and the price we pay extra for the hybrid when we buy. It might still be economical though

My son had a RAV4 hybrid vehicle. He ended up trading it in for a standard RAV4. The hybrid RAV4 gas mileage is good for an SUV by US standards and has all the virtues of the gas-only RAV4. As with all Toyota hybrid AWD systems, it's useless in the upper midwest of the US in winter even with proper snow tires.
@lkraujelis2 жыл бұрын
Good point, now if I would take new Rav I would go for petrol. However hybrid have much more power and that is a bit sad to lose it.

The newer ones are better and it’s more a aggressive. I put wr g4 all weather tires on my gfs hybrid rav 4 se 2019 model and it’s been great in snow and rain. It’s Texas though so it was more ice than snow but never felt scared

Toyota hybrids are probably the best cars on the road with internal combustion engine but off the road they are simply not., rav4 in USA has a petrol version with proper awd system as good as Subaru. 👍

So. I drive my 2017 hybrid and it is marvelous, unique and if people wouldn't drive that rough and primitive like maniacs, this extreme reliable super tec car, makes gasoline savings possible, no other conventionally car type even diesels, can't mess with, thats for sure guys. And the other qualities are extreme excellent as well. We talking about a 2.5 li wich is that quite as can be. It's decently suspended compared, to those typical German average pseudo "sport suspensions " who ride like crab and killing after time your bag. I got real in the summer a average from 4,7 liters and in the winter 5,8 that's caused from the coldness and bad street conditions and more energy grabbing rubbers tires. People, who got this awesome Rav4 2017 would be absolutely stupid, if they don't drive it until it is falling apart, this is maybe for someone people a real challenge who is falling at first apart hahaha.

@@lkraujelis While drivn is ok, but some times the system decides to not send power to the rear wheels... not very sure why.. with the sofware update I believe it is partially solved. In any case a little bit of momentun helps on this situation as it forces the rear motor to work. Also sometimes is needeed to floor the gas pedal to get enught torque to the rear motor as there is not a phisical connection between two axles
