Final torque on shaft bolt is 148 ft. Lbs. PLUS 180 degrees. That’s an extra 1/2 turn. It’s hard to do. A 3/4” drive 19mm hex socket and a big cheater bar is needed.

so much diff techniques here. Excellent video. Learned so much. I must add, the knowledge using existing parts here. EVEN seasoned Techs, didnt pick up on . Thank you.

How in the world did you push the bearing counter clockwise while it was still mounted?.....I don't know if that would work in the rust belt of the US, too much corrosion.

It's crude, but we used a basic chisel and hammer, the old bearing is being replaced so doesnt matter. Worked for us, and others. Hopefully will for you too. Post your solution here, it might help others if this one doesn't work. Good luck with it.

@@ianmacwilliam4019 I'm definitely going to have to try this weekend. I did a front this past weekend and the thing was so seized I had to improvise with a bearing puller tool set...even the three pound slide hammer didn't work, nor a lot of heat. I am literally stressed about the work ahead for me on the rear bearing and if I can remove it. It's been pounded with road salt for quite a few winters.....

@@deejay4837 Do you mind feeding us an update? We are struggling with an 7 year old A6 in coastal Norway. Heat, slidehammer, hitting a loose screw from the back, hitting everything with a sledgehammer, nothing makes this thing budge. Will try hammer+chisel tomorrow to see if this was the unicorn recipe for this bearing.

@@MrBordal An ingenious way to remove it along with some heat - stay clear of the speed sensor or cover it with aluminum foil - is to use an angle grinder and cut into the four lobes all the way through the bolts. The bearing housing is the only part that is threaded. Cut as close to the edge but leave enough steel that you aren't cutting into the aluminum knucke/spindle. After you cut through the entire bolt they will literally fall out the other end. If it's a little stuck it will come out with some coaxing with any method now that the bolts are no longer fastened. @al I did the rear passenger side today and it didn't give me the horror the fronts did. It did help having the right tools - ex. 12mm triple square bit - not socket - and a blow torch to use on the four 12mm bolts. I left the hub on this time and tapped the edges to remove the whole bearing assembly, walking it out of the spindle. Keep in mind that I was not reusing the hub as it had over 10mm of run-out that was causing the whole tire to wobble noticeably and make faint howl at acceleration. The wobble was really noticeable at cold tires.
