Thanks. What do you think about installing inverters in areas with high ambient temperatures (up to 45 C in summer)? I've heard form several technicians that these systems aren't functional in these areas because the system protects itself too often.
@AngelRodriguez-qg5zq20 күн бұрын
Thanks. The further north you go, the more energy the compressor needs to reduce the temperature in the evaporator. How is the heat pump more efficient in this regard? How is this energy generated in cold climates?

My name is John Ellena I am the owner of E.R.S. Energy Reduction Systems. I install affordable remote monitoring and controls for smaller commercial buildings. I spent many years as an HVAC field engineer, so I know these systems inside and out. Here is what I do when I install a remote monitoring system. -install Emporia electrical monitoring system in the electrical panels. This allows me to remotely monitor the entire building's electrical footprint on a trending timeline. The system cost $200 per electrical panel. So it's very affordable. I install Wi-Fi thermostats. I install temperature sensors on the HVAC supply and return. This allows me to monitor the Delta-T. I install zone damper systems four rooms that are rarely used, which also are controlled by Wi-Fi thermostat. I install Wi-Fi controlled contactors to shut off water heaters for extended unoccupancy. I install smart plugs and smart lighting I offer remote monitoring and training to use the system. A simple system with one electrical monitoring system and one Wi-Fi thermostat is $1,000 cost to customer. I offer remote monitoring for $50 a month. And I am $80 an hour for further diagnostics and implementation. My customers are routinely shocked to find devices that are running unnecessarily. They are also very easily trained to monitor their own electrical footprint. With the Emporia electrical monitoring system it's very easy for the customer to see the impact on their electrical footprint by a simple change to HVAC system setback time, or setback temperature. They are also shocked to find something as simple as dirty filters causing a HVAC system to run 50% longer than necessary, and sometimes 24 hours a day. I am trying to work with Elitech to make a dedicated HVAC monitoring system that performs the same test I do when I'm on site this includes; HVAC system electrical footprint -compressor amps -blower amps -condenser fan amps -crankcase heater amps Supply and return temperatures Superheat -a low superheat will ruin a compressor -main cause I see is dirty filters, slipping belts, bad blower fan capacitors -a high superheat along with low subcooling is a Tell-Tale sign of a low refrigerant charge. Subcooling -a high subcooling can be a sign of refrigerant overcharge or dirty condenser coil. -a low subcooling can be a sign of low refrigerant charge or a refrigerant leak. Discharge line temp -this tells you if you're a compressor is about to overheat Monitoring the HVAC system electrical footprint along with monitoring the superheat and subcooling, I can easily set up a timeline for maintenance. This also allows for alarm notifications to be sent to the customer or myself. The system will involve; -six temperature probes -two pressure transducers -6 circuit transformers(amp meters) -a PLC sending unit with ethernet port to connect to a outdoor Wi-Fi antenna amplifier. Without a system like this you will not get an accurate view of your HVAC RTU. Currently I can only remote monitor the electrical footprint and the Delta-T of the RTU. I am trying to convince Elitech that a unit like this would sell in vast quantities. My Emporia electrical monitoring system cost me $200. All I really need to add is 6 temp probes and two pressure transducers. I believe a unit like I want could be produced and sold for under $500. I would love nothing more than to correspond with anyone who is interested. Thank you

More propaganda. You always hear about how efficient heat pumps are. They never mention how inefficient the electric power grid is. Gas is most efficient use of primary energy. Everything else is BS.

Very very little substance and left out the cost benefit s which as others said correctly do not exist! Highly recommend basic units then over size for colder climate only aa last choice. Keep it simple! Best for user, installer, and service! This was 30 minutes of marketing...thanks this confirms plain Jane units best...or go propane All the very best

This is all well and good but for the consumer and someone like myself who is a builder owner none of this really helps me in dealing with the suppliers and installers etc. I have serious doubts the suppliers and installers are going to be privy to all these different brands tweaking their performance, in other words, many of us don't have very many choices if we are dealing with a single supplier and installer etc. This is particularly true if you want the extended manufacturer's warranty like, for example, Mitsubishi units etc. There's a serious problem in this ecosystem when it comes to repair and support as many below are alluding to or directly describing. This is particularly true the more rural one lives.
@jrsmyth97619 ай бұрын
The mfrs CANNOT provide the field tech with ANY testing parameters to determine what is happening in a system like these!!! There are no longer individual replaceable parts, it is all a board that costs so much that ANY out of warranty repairs are required.

I can’t stand high end AC units they cost so much to repair or you have to make the home owner wait on parts.
@RETread-xh6fr9 ай бұрын
Sounds expensive to repair. The HVAC companies will love them, consumers not so much.
@1948Noam9 ай бұрын
In Canada with our ODA below minus temperatures are not feasible as in the Southern USA plus the initial costs and then repairs costs are very expensive with the more expensive replacement costs and enough knowledgeable people out there to service them at $200.00 an hour! The cost benefits are not there unless one can make repairs themselves! The laws of thermodynamics are the same today as they were since the beginning of time! Cold climate is simply another buzz word that do not deliver as promised!

Population growth is currently mainly driven by live expectancy growth, which for now, is still rising fairly sharply. It won't rise infinitely though, and global birth rates are already plummeting. The needed fertility rate to just maintain a population is around 2.1 and the global average is currently at 2.3, a lot less than it was many years ago. It will probably drop below the replacement rate in the years to come. Unless we just roll over and give up completely, we will need young people to deal with the challenges that will be caused by climate change.

There is no such thing as "warming earth" and "climate change" migration. The earth is fine. The slight warming due primarily to ENSO and active sun is highly conducive to plant growth resulting in bumper crops everywhere and shrinking deserts. The human migrations we see around the world are primarily economic and opportunistic. People migrate from poor mismanaged countries to rich well administered countries. That's all there is to it. Nothing to do with climate.

When you uses a heat pump you get 2-3 times the energy from one dollar of electric. It’s up to 4 times on a heat pump water heater. That’s where you get the efficiency. Time of use pricing also helps.

It makes me chuckle when people say, "The end of the world is coming". The planet will be fine in the long run, it's us that are screwed. Sadly, its no more than we deserve. The earth is an amazing living organism and we are an infection.

@cloudincus405210 ай бұрын
"Its us that are screwed" also make me chuckle. We will be just fine. Yeah the population may drop by a few billion. Our standards of living may change to worse for a lot of us. However there is no climate shift that could happen fast enough to even come close to wiping us out. It why the saying used to be "The end of the world as we know it" Not sure why that changes to just. "The end of the world"

Would a more cost-effective and lower lifetime carbon impact solution to heating hot water in locations with large amounts of sunlight (and PV such as California) not be to use solar thermal systems such as vacuum tubes or flat plates and then the heat pump would not be needed at all? instead of using all PV on the roof use part of the roof for a solar thermal system and replace the gas-fired calorifier in each apartment with a well-insulated cylinder with a heating coil? This requires no refrigerants and very little electricity. It may also address the duck curve in a way by reducing the amount of PV feeding into the grid and reducing the Nat Gas consumption by removing gas-fired water heaters.
@shanemitchell8278 Жыл бұрын
Really great information here. We regularly see poorly insulated systems in modern buildings and I have frequently wondered what the overall losses caused by that them are. Also poor Delta T control is a constant
