In the courtyard look up near the top of the chapel. You will see a statue of an angle. It was carved by Lincoln Borglum.. he and his father carved Mt. Rushmore.

I grew up in that area and have since moved out as an adult. Although I love the Appalachian Mtns and they feel like home to me. I wish I had been mature enough to enjoy the natural beauty of East Texas when I was there. I’ll need to go back for a visit sometime.

This is what needs to be remembered is that the Americans were illegal aliens from the states. They were mercenaries because they were promised from Houston 640 acres of Mexican land should they win the war. When they were legally executed on March 27, it was legal, because they were pirates and mercenaries.

I asked a Park Ranger one time if there are alligators in Village Creek and she told me No. They don't like Village Creek because it is spring fed, in part, and springs are cold. They love the shallow warm adjoining sloughs and oxbows. When the creek is low they will move into the creek as the springs dry up to look for food. By the way Great Video! I love it. I go to the Big Thicket often.

Were you guys allowed to visit the barracks during the night or did they close that off when the staff left? We are planning a paranormal investigation in spring of 2022 and i hear the barracks have a lot of activity. I probably should have posted this on part 1 because that's the video about Presido La Bahia. Btw, excellent series. Thank you for sharing your adventures. We are so excited to see all the history that Goliad has to offer.

I’m so happy to see that Aquarena Springs has been restored after Texas state university rip up the bottom of it doing an archaeological dig back in the 1990s it looks great now! the hotel that you see wasn’t always a hotel it used to be San Marcos treatment Center which is now on top of the hill right next to Aquarena Springs!

185 years ago today, on March 27, 1836, approximately 450 Texian soldiers were murdered by Mexican firing squads after having surrendered days earlier. Remember the Goliad Massacre! And NEVER, EVER, EVER, SURRENDER.

Family oral history always had William Quinn, my 3rd great grand uncle, as having been killed at the Goliad Massacre. Through research, I found out that he was not killed in the Massacre but, during the Battle of Coleto Creek on the previous day. Somehow. I felt better about that!
