Bobby Orr is the greatest hockey player ever, and he did it all on one knee. And the skates and equipment were horrible back then. I can’t imagine how good he would be in today’s game. On top of all of that, the guy is the nicest, most humble athlete/celebrity ever. Just a class act.

i mean yes tallon built the 2010 team but 2013 and 2015 was mostly bowman and tbh the hawks in 2017 i think were just worn out from many long runs within short timespans. They played nashville in round 1 in 2010 and 2015 and beat them so we knew they would be hungry for long overdue revenge against the hawks. I bet bowmans reactions wouldn't have been as rough and unprofessional if tey had lost in 5 or 6 or 7 cause the yr before when they were the defending champions and lost to st louis in 7 he was kinda like eh whatever i loved our effort and we will move by

After watching this video, KZbin suggested a clip of the Canada - Russia game that Phil was referring to, only to see Phil going offside while on a line with Bobby Hull. There was a lot of depth on that team!

Just to add, Scotty would bench the Canadien's entire line, Lafleur, Shutt and Lamaire, if they weren't backchecking. Secondly, the only team he couldn't turn around was Buffalo. He won the Cup with Montreal, Pittsburgh and Detroit, and with the expansion team St. Louis, he was in the finals 3 times and lost to 2 great teams, Boston and Montreal. Phil's criticism of such a record sounds like nonsense but Phil is emotional. He really wanted to play the Russians and it hurt him.
@steelcom5976 Жыл бұрын
Scotty needed a fired up Phil for the finals. What better way than to bench him. He thought that Phil might not be effective against the Russians and Canada had already lost to the Czechs, so he made a change and secured the win. Phil had a great finals and was a major part of both wins (2 out of 3 format). History will remember the result and not who got sat out.

Walt Tkaczuk was like Doug Kotar on the Giants in 1974. They always called him Doug KO TAR and a year later when he made it it was pronounced Doug KOTER! It took over a year for Walter to have them call him KACHOOK instead of TAYCHUK! Fred had coached Walter to start his pro career in the 1967 playoffs with the Omaha Knights and later in Buffalo in 1968 and he was great with 9 points in 5 games and was called up and the rest is history! After three playoff games where Tkaczuk scored 2 goals, he went back to Kitchener in 1967/68 for his last juniors season and was great with 93 points in 52 games. He then had a cup of coffee in NY playing two games as a 20 year old. Playing with Tkaczuk in 1967 in Kitchener were former Rangers Don Luce, Jack Egers, Mike Robitaille, Jim Krulicki, Ab DeMarco to name a few! He started 1968 in Buffalo and starred and was promoted and never looked back until an eye injury ended his career at age 33 in 1981. The Kitchener Rangers in those days were sponsored by the Rangers in the OHA! The Guelph Royals were relocated to Kitchener and renamed the Kitchener Rangers and they had the crest of the NY Rangers until 1967 when the NHL expanded. Emile Francis had been the coach with the Guelph Royals and had guys like Rod Gilbert, Jean Ratelle, Bobby Plager, Mike McMahon. Francis moved to NY in 1962 as the assistant GM until he took over the GM job in 1964 and made himself HC in 1965. We would of never had a Nick Fotiu, Joe Mullen, Jim Pavese, Chris Ahrens without Emile Francis who started the NY Met league in 1966 to develop NY hockey players. Joey Mullen's older Brothers Tom and Ken played in the Met League but to get an opportunity to play in the NHL in the 1960's as a New Yorker was unheard of! It was Emile Francis who running the St Louis Blues gave Joe Mullen the opportunity he needed and the rest is history and opened the door for the youngest Brother Brian to have a much easier door to the NHL!

Fred Shero was so fucked up he trades Don Murdoch a year after the 1979 finals run because of Murdoch's drugs and drinking and thought he had acquired defenseman Colin Campbell and instead acquired winger Cam Connor from Edmonton! At least he had the initials right!

Phil, Bobby, Derek the whole 1970 team composed of great people. Derek had his own talk show on channel 38. Surrounded by superstars Esposito & Orr he felt that he needed some way of garnering lots public attention. Espo considered him smart for doing this. Espo once scored four goals in one game, but afterwards all the reporters lined up to speak to Sanderson. Make no mistake however, Derek could skate extremely well. He was world class but his health shortened his career. In sports longevity counts in the hall of fame
