Oh well, they'd say really cruel things, ignorant things... Why is that? I think because, they're afraid. and what would they say exactly? Oh, they'd say, "You're only allowed at the gym so they can study you, why don't you go back to China and make my shoes..." or, they'd write COVID-CHINK-LOVER on my nurse'a desk and tell me to run to my ABC brother... -Bryan Chiang (variant)

This actually shows how popular kids really aren’t as mean as Hollywood movies make them. Besides the overly nerdy plot here, the 2 girls are pretty accurate…. a cheerleader isn’t going to act like the mean girls in Never Been Kissed or She’s All That just because you aren’t popular. They’ll talk to you, and maybe even befriend you if they liked you enough. I mean there are always mean kids just like there are mean adults, but this is pretty accurate on how kids react to eachother.

It might depend on the school. But really, there weren't a lot of popular kids in mine that were jerks. At most, they were just apathetic of you, too self absorbed to be a bully. A lot of the jocks were really cool and friendly people, though.

Man, high school is the 2000s was way different. Kids like Eli were generally the most popular because they were almost always psyched to see you and hang out. Good kids with big hearts. And anyone making fun or bullying them would 100% get lit up by the entire student body.

There was this special kid from my high school who was just angry and pushed people around and one of my friends was a Chinese-Mexican tweaker by senior year. The most hilarious and unpredictable guy. My hardcore punk kid friend went to school without socks in vans authentics and he pour his box of OJ in em. Imagine the every other day chaos that these two get into with my tweaker friend yelling shit

Then there's another scene (I believe later in this episode) where cool kids again holler at Maureen and Bill casually goes "Quick, where's Eli?!" LOL Greatest show of all time.

Insanely good. Lots of failures of the kids but they always have family and a few close friends to turn to. The show also wasn't afraid to be edgy - (16yo main character getting lit out of her mind) .. and ground-breaking drama when unlikely pairs of kids had deep conversations and gained perspective from each other. A masterpiece: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmjRg3etosamqJo

Yes it’s really good show! I found this show special since it had a lot of upcoming stars. You never really see that in shows let alone already having famous actors appear in without centering the whole episode around like most cliche shows do

I was definitely Maureen, although I had no interest in cheer-leading. Bass guitar, yes. Actually, I never did get to shoot off a bottle rocket, but the buffet scene does bring back pleasant memories. I wish I could go do that again with my three best friends from high school... *sigh*
