Love the people of the Potteries and the dialect, having lived there for a few years in the 1980s. It’s a tragedy that so many industries were allowed to disappear there- it didn’t have to be that way

I came from Sussex to the Potteries in 1973 to work down the pit and had to learn a whole new language ! The dialects [more than one] was ever present and strongest down the pit - happy days ! I found potteries folk the friendliest in the country and after 17 years there, I was sorry to have to leave for Yorkshire.... and a new language to learn.

Longton has gotten worse since then, the precinct area is literaly dead. 1:12 I dont think the stand is there anymore. Getting fed up with developers getting paid money to make plans to regenerate places like Longton, make a big fuss over it and then find nothing gets improved or developed.

Stoke On Trent, nowhere else like it. Sadly nothing more than a ghost of its former self. Pits gone, pot banks gone, steelworks gone. Not many real Stokies left anymore, most have moved away because there is nothing to stay for. In 2022 over 70% of the people are now immigrants from Romania, Poland, Africa, Pakistan and the countries of the Middle East. The dialect is almost gone now, just a few of us older ones still speak it, anyone under 50 years of age hasn't got a clue.

Regeneration Officer, that must be a thankless task given the utter mess the council have made over the last 40 years. I once lived in Dresden Street in Hanley. The council, at that time, devastated the area and community in some grandiose plan to build, well, something. The whole thing stunk of corruption and the area never recovered. I'm sure Stoke council aren't unusual in being corrupt, incompetent and a menace to everyone in the city but that doesn't excuse the blunders, wasted money and stupidity. I hope for once things get better but Stoke needs a joined up strategy not piecemeal hotchpotch developments.

Glad to see they are recycling but all so sad, I just wonder whether they really needed to be demolished. My Mother was scrubbing the floor in the house she was born in, in John Street ( Northwood) she was the youngest of ten in a two up two down. Not many of the ten survived, all born and passing away in that house as did her Mother. sorry, she was srubbing the marley tiled floor as the wrecking ball swung at the house, thankfully someone spotted her .
