Aloha Nick… Great video! Question: recently, on 12/18/24, the VIX spiked to about 28. In that moment what did you look at and consider to decide if you thought that was the peak, or if the VIX would spike higher, maybe to a second standard deviation of 36 like on 8/5/24? Thank you in advance.

Enjoy the analyses I learn from both Nick and Jessica. One topic for a potential video later in the year is the history of tariffs and whether they have any real effect on bottom lines, the broad stock market, or particular sectors. Tariffs will likely be heavily discussed in the coming years, even if we do not know what form tariffs will take with the new Administration.

We are the wealthiest nation in the world and in world history. But most Americans, including me, lack financial literacy. Thanks Nick.
@obijuan300412 күн бұрын
I started intentionally investing with my own money (outside of the 401k) 8 years ago. In this bull market I managed a 51% return, which is easy to say when the market is so bullish. I see the world in a different way now. For example I wanted to pay off my house as soon possible to be debt free. Now, I know money sitting in home equity is a loss in cash value. I’m better off making payments and keeping as much cash in the market where returns are 10% to 20%. Even in 2022, was able to make money. I have learned, and am still leaning, financial literacy the hard way. People like Nick and Jessica should have more followers, this information is worth millions,

Hi, I remember you guys had a rule called "a double is a bubble" which meant that if the Nasdaq 100 doubles in a two year period, we're in a bubble. December 2022 to December 2024 (exactly two years), the Nasdaq 100's price return was over 100%. Could you explain why that was your opinion in Summer 2024, and is no longer your opinion?

Surprised, but glad you are ok. Here in California we keep a go bag in our cars. I still have a full sized spare tire and my go bag lives there. Totally agree about the small bills I have a stack of 5s. Electronic payment systems go down in emergencies. N-95s were a thing here long before Covid because of wild fires. We tend to get the ones with exhalation valves. Socks and tennis shoes, in case all I wore was flip flops. Hat. After an earthquake you want a good shoe. Work gloves, same reason earthquake debris. Short wave radio, local stations may be down. Good advice, thanks.

Very interesting. Food for thought. Thanks. I would say, though, that an equally motivating factor in "the marshmallow test" is fear. If you, as a person with no unusual talents to offer the job market, fear the future where you are afraid to be indigent, you might be a very faithful saver and investor and end up wealthy just because you so viscerally feared poverty. I know such people, actually, and they have done fabulously well.

#3 is something that makes total sense to me. Not that #1 and #2 don't, but you just have to realize that there really can be and in fact is a difference between the US and rest of world. Now, will that persist? Yes, in the short term, but long term, be awake, I guess.

thx for the video. i am assuming that the majority of consumers would not wish to own a self driving vehicle. instead, the idea would be to replace taxi, uber and lyft. how many rides would tesla need each day to justify the valuation as well as the amount of capital needed to build those vehicles which will be operated and maintained by tesla?

Tech to get rich, BRK to stay rich
@briancase6180Ай бұрын
This is pretty interesting, but anyone paying attention already knows that Buffett is way behind tech. Love the man, but he's not giving his investors the best. I think if he were starting today, he'd be all in on tech. He'd be reading and learning and he'd be a techie at heart. Buffet had a huge IQ (still does, not saying he's lost it, but he's slower (as am I!)); Munger IQ was probably a little higher still.

I am impressed with your update on these stocks, now my question is which is best to buy at this time. I have some liquid assets to diversify.
@Neil-l7vАй бұрын
In no order: 1) VOO 2) QQQM 3) SCHG/VUG 4) VTI 5) SCHD/DGRO. Personally I put down 1.2m$ on few ETFs, still diversifying. it was this time last year I made my first break through with a liquid 370k. Handed it to a trader here in TX, I get weekly pay out which I put back on long term ETF's. Tesla will be a huge buy for me when the market bottoms.

What about if you stretch data to 30-50 years when tech bubble burst and other market corrections happened?
@countingdazeАй бұрын
Perhaps Mr. Buffett doesn't see good intrinsic value right now in the BRK share price. BRK management has always been very shareholder focused. They have made it clear that they prefer not to buy back shares unless they feel that they're undervalued. This is very unlike most of the large cap C-Suite operators where buybacks are more for their own benefit.

I own none of the assets you mention. If you were close to retirement and was forced to pick one asset between QQQ, XLK, and BRK, which would it be? Are you sure your pick now would be the same 12 months from now?
@williambanzhof9739Ай бұрын
Hi johnc4789. I have been retired for about 3 years now and my portfolio is 90% bonds and 10% tech. Seems to be working for me regarding risk/reward. But given this "happy" market I am considering moving about 1% of my bond allocation into tech..... BUT I watch the market every day as an insurance policy against losing capital in either bonds or tech.....
@johnc4789Ай бұрын
@@williambanzhof9739 Looks like what I'm doing. While I still worked, bonds were too boring but in retirement I'm 100% in a mix of bond, income, and multisector funds. Pays my bills, inflation, and then some. Hoping to see a cheaper equity market some day.
@johnc4789Ай бұрын
@@williambanzhof9739 (My first reply disappeared so redoing it.) I'm on the same page as you. All in equities before retirement. Now 100% in fixed income funds of treasuries, EM, HY, corporate, income, multisector (flexible) funds of bonds, securities, MBS, etc. Tried to get interested in covered calls and CEFs, but cannot make myself trust them. My mix pays my bills, inflation, and then some. Would love to see better valuations in the equity markets like tech.

Jessica and Nick, what is your RISK metric against which these returns must be measured?
@knava12Ай бұрын
Buffet/BRK vs Large Cap Tech can elicit strong reactions. But I own both, each are good options for equities.
@marjorietench3925Ай бұрын
But is it meaningful to compare the returns of BRK to the QQQ or XLK cause no one should be 100% in tech to be properly diversified. Shouldnt BRK returns be compared to S&P.
