Howdy Mike. Yeah, I've run into Karen's a few times but most folks just ask how much the drone costs. Then I let them look through the goggles to view the flight and they understand! Most of my flights now are way out in the desert and I never see anyone out there, so no worries. The homes at Calico Basin are pricey because no more homes can be built out there. Would be a great place for a drone pilot to live.

Good morning Jim! Great first flight! So did it hurt the battery to go that low? I had heard it could. I get that remote controller control stick error with my avata sometimes and if i dont land and recalibrate it can affect my throttle. I had the avata start coming down a few times even though I was giving it full up stick. had to switch into N mode real quick and that fixed it. I remember eddie nunez losing his FPV over the ocean in a video. Fun to watch but Im going to stick with the FPV drone! Had a great 2 flights with it a few days ago. Dang fun! Also I put on the masterairscrew props and got 101 mph with it..have a great day Jim!!! See ya next time!

Howdy Mike. The battery was hot (175 F) after landing so I put it in the fridge for an hour to cool it quickly! Charged it back up and had 2 more flights with it, seems fine. I frequently go below 10% battery with the DJI FPV drone with no damage at all. Main thing is to charge it back up to 50% and never leave it fully charged. Yeah, I get that remote controller error on both the FPV and Avata on most flights and never had any problems with it, just a nuisance thing. Later today I plan to test the Failsafe out back, got to know its gonna work before taking it out to the big mountains. Hope it is not too exciting!

Ok, I'm ready for pt 2!!! I just ordered the air 3 yesterday. it went on sale. So no MOZ for me for awhile! I think the FPV will be good for me for awhile. I still like going way out with the mini 3 pro , integra goggles, motion controller 2 with head tracking and getting VERY low slow exploration flights and I think the Air 3 will be even better. The FPV is fun and FAST but it still doesn't give me the flight time of the Mini 3 or now air 3. 2 diff types of flying, I love them both!

Gonna take it out to the big mountains in a few days, just gotta get use to switching from Acro to Angle mode for landing so I can set it down gently. Nothing but rocks where I usually fly so I'll need to bring a tarp or something. Bummer about the air 3. I took the Moz7 out to the big mountains yesterday for 2 flights, super fun to fly! Got 15 minutes of flight and around 11 miles of round trip distance. Handles even better than the FPV drone for smooth cinematic flight, speed is good, just wont climb as fast. Dives are smoother too. Landings are the only drawback, it can be a bit challenging to land in the wind. The DJI 03 camera is top notch imo, no need for piggyback camera. GEPRC has best price, no tax and arrives an 2 weeks.

Yeah, I've haad at least 3 disconnects and it never rises, just points home and returns. The RTH setting is disabled from the hack. Also, with the hack the drone will switch into Critical Low battery frequently and switch back into Normal mode preventing M mode. You will need to go in and change the default parameters with DJI Assistant and they have a video showing how to do that which is very easy.

When you are climbing up or descending that mountain, you have to be over 400 above ground level at times. Do you get a waiver or just don't sweat it since it is a relatively short period of time?
@thecuriousnomad4712
@thecuriousnomad4712 Ай бұрын
The limit is 400' above the ground but is unlimited when the drone is within 400' of a structure or in this case a mountain face. So for example the drone can be 400' away from the face of the mountain and 3000' above the ground and still be in compliance. I always try to stay well below 400' at all times, and actually prefer to fly within 50' of the ground. Thanks

@@thecuriousnomad4712 My understanding is the exception is for those part 107 certified. You don't have the exception if you're not part 107 certified as recreational flights are done under USC 44809. Do you know what I or anyone what that may be confused can reference to back up the exception for those that aren't part 107 certified? Because all I've found under USC 44809 had a limit of 400. And only part 107 had that exception from what I could find. Would hate to tell people the wrong thing and get them in trouble, or tell them the wrong thing and restrict them.
@thecuriousnomad4712
@thecuriousnomad4712 Ай бұрын
@@jake535579 I never fly over or near structures, just natural mountains and landscapes. Other rules apply to flying above towers. The 400' rule means you must be less than 400' from the ground at all times. As the ground slopes up a mountain base the drone must stay less than 400' off the ground at all times. On a steep mountain the ground could be vertical and so long as the drone is less than 400' from the mountain face it is still in compliance. The drone may be 1000' or more above the take off point but so long as it is within 400' of the ground regardless of the slope it is still in compliance. No waiver is needed because the pilot is flying within the 400' rule and this applies to recreational pilots as well. A waiver would only be needed if the drone is to be flown above the 400' rule. I could be wrong, but that it what I remember from studying for my part 107. It is a good rule for separating aircraft from drones. I have seen helicopters flying well below 400' so I prefer to fly as low as possible above the ground

Mike, I'm just using the Auto setting, I have never tried any of the manual settings.
