I have great respect for Orwell and have read all books and some collections of essays BUT do would not touch anything the BBC make with bargepole ...

Great show - good to the Captain and Rat on the same stage again ... and having Paul there brought back some needed punk energy. Mr. Vanian always puts on a great show. Also was great to see them closing around - Dave walking behind the band while Capt was doing vocal duties. Crazy to think Monty has been a member for almost 30 years! This might be high damned last Damned concert - and damn it was a good way to go out. Although I was hoping they would rollout some deep tracks - like "Mine's a Large One Landlord" or at least "Rat vs. The Omni" LOL

If making this now at the BBC Orwell would be cast as black and probably be transitioning to be a woman - Eric Blair becoming Georgina Orwell.

I wonder how much that man could get for those early lines from Eric Blair? I would suppose it would bring in many thousands of dollars.😊

Interesting, perhaps, from a sociological point of view - oh but how tedious and depressing. And one cannot really blame capitalism exclusively for the awful lives of these people. Low IQ, ingrained prejudice, lack of ambition, lack of opportunities - all that plays a part. Anyhow, it was Orwell who put Wigan on the map.

I think Orwell experienced and correctly described the evil dishonesty of Communists and many Socialists. If you have any kind of regard for the noble qualities of life, Socialist politics are not for you.

Orwell was a brilliant writer who was prepared to get his hands dirty. Only that way he was able to have his eyes opened unlike many a novelist. The end of Animal Farm reveals the grim truth - 42:20 Nevertheless, the declaration of war upon Germany was the single worst decision ever made by Britain. The ending 47:36 might well be the most prescient thing he ever wrote - lets hope not.

George Orwell met Henry Miller on his way to Spain. Miller gave him a tie. That simple gesture speaks volumes about both men. Both understood the dangers of being sidelined by communism and fascism. The real question to ask is 'Who's got all the money?

31:01 All of the wealth and glory of the British Empire never made a jot of difference to the vast majority of its own subjects. So where did the money go?

The British Empire attempted to drag primitive countries into the modern age in a more gentle manner than what was accomplished in Russia and China. Its still not clear who succeeded best. Meanwhile at home, all the glory and the wealth of the empire remained invisible to far too many lost souls. Lost souls that Orwell sought to find companionship amongst.
