Woah you said a lot of things but a lot of it is misinformed or stigmatising. Borderline personality disorder is a mental illness. Bpd is most often caused by trauma, so "if you took away all the trauma and still have these problems, you will have borderline" doesn't really add up. The diagnosis BPD simply means you have at least 5 of the 9 symptoms often attributed to BPD according to the DSM5. BPD can be cured and you can heal from it, because if you don't relate to 5 or more symptoms anymore, you likely no longer have the diagnosis. All people with borderline were born with a heightened emotional sensitivity. If that sensitivity is shunned or not nurtured growing up, it can lead to BPD. It is the most common personality disorder, so it might not be strange that there is a vast community of people who identify with bpd. Creating an online network and creating memes about living with the disorder could be very helpful for people to feel seen and to feel soothed. No it is not cool or hip to have a disorder, but neither is it to be neurotypical. It is really problematic to say people with bpd are crazy, because it conjures a lot of bad connotations for everyone. The word is too hurtful to callously throw about. I get your sentiment, that if you don't have it after thinking you did, other people who say they do online could also be misinformed. Best advice would be to inform yourself, so the right information gets spread. The National Institute of Mental Health has good resources on bpd. Codependency is also a very serious condition and can be an addiction. Coda.org can be helpful. Thank you for making this video and getting your thoughts out, this is just me correcting some parts.
@Mintje333
@Mintje333 4 ай бұрын
@@TheUncannyDani hi, with the sentence “if you take away all the trauma and still have these problems…” I meant that if you look at your traumas and heal from them by doing shadow work and working on yourself and you still experience and struggle with signs of borderline then there is a bigger chance that you have it. From what my psychologists told me I did understand that borderline can’t be cured, you can learn how to live with it but that it never fully goes away. Like your symptoms can influence your life less but they will still be there? It could be that they are wrong, as I already said I just wanted to give some information about how I got through all of this. I never wanted to say that people online can’t create content about what they went through and how they’re feeling. I just wanted to explain that because of these videos a lot of people self diagnose because they simply relate to the video. I never wanted to say that these people can’t post these kind of videos anymore because I totally understand that it works with coping and that it is nice to reach a community with the same illness as you have so that you feel more understood. I just wanted to give some information about how I one day completely self diagnosed myself by TikTok being my source of information, and trust me I related to every video that was about bpd and was 100% convinced I had it. Which is okey, thinking you have something, there is nothing wrong with that. The part where it goes wrong is when these people say they have it without having a real diagnose + they are totally not planning to do these tests. So they just claim to have borderline without doing any more research. Maybe you have not been in contact with these kind of people, but trust me I have. Also with the whole “putting labels” on everyone, people these days think there is something wrong with them faster while sometimes you just have to grow up and heal from some stuff and then everything will be okey. I also totally did not wanna say that people with bpd are crazy. This is what my psychologist told me, that because I worked so hard on myself in the past year and grew so much mentally and spiritually that I can’t have bpd because people with bpd can’t just not have symptoms that fast + since I got out of the relationship and healed from the breakup the heavy moodswings and codependency are just gone like that while with bpd you tend to have another favorite person and obsess about them. I also have some people reach out to me (since back in the day I was very open on TikTok about the fact that I thought I had borderline) and they’re relating to all my tiktoks and asking if I have it. There is a girl who also thought they had bpd and now, since she’s out of a toxic relationship and is starting to work on herself, her symptoms are also just gone like that. So the point of my video here is really that even if you relate to a lot of symptoms that it could be that you totally don’t have anything but that you are just going though a rough period in your life and because of social media we think there is something wrong with us really really fast. (And I’m also not ignoring the fact that they are a LOT of people these days who really think being mentally ill is cool and they start acting like the diagnose they think they have because they’re convinced they have it and these people just piss me of but that’s just my opinion) Thank you for correcting me and I hope we understand eachother!
