Look, I know it's a Hip-Hop Head thing, and I been a Hip-Hop-Head since 1988...but even then I never really bought into the crep thing too much. I'm sure sneaker fiends are decent folks, by and large, but Nike have particularly egregious attitudes to working conditions in countries that have massive wage gaps, much bigger than in "The West" (even though the working class is still treated like dogshit by virtually everyone else, even them-fucking-SELVES, on an international level...if they're not condescending, they're underpaying, if they're not underpaying then they're actively fighting against a minimum wage...economic war to make the poor poorer and the rich richer. They're not playing by the same "rules"). I loved my Nike clothing back in the day. Anyone remember the bright orange bomber-type jacket with the huge embroidered "NIKE" down the left sleeve in blue with the little blue swoosh on the right breast? I fucking LOVED that jacket. Oh, and that orange and beige ting, the hooded windcheater made out of that thin waterproof material with the interior webbing, little back-flap "bum warmer"? That was FRESH! With the grey/silver embroidered swoosh on left pocket and some almost graf-style grey printed lettering across the shoulders on the back, "nike" in this futurist lower-case lettering? It had a nice hood with the toggle drawstring, going back like '98? I loved them jackets. And the purple and green ACG jacket/pants combo?! MAH GOD! Shit was fly. But I can't condone that myself anymore. Live how you wanna live...but almost every action we take as "consumers" is inflicting violence on the international working class and all we can do is minimise that. Out.
