A little late to the video, but what if you continued the square pattern on the forge pergola, but instead of cutting out the squares above the forge and anvil, you just indent the squares by one? That way, you could have your pattern continue, but it still keeps you dry.
@Kurazarrh4 сағат бұрын
That could be a neat solution! I'll give it a try, though there may be a threshold of voxels below which it won't provide cover, even if it looks like it should (the game does this with insulation, too).

I don't know if you know this, but you can transfer liquids between containers while still in inventory! It can be a bit finicky at times, but it's easier than putting it down and picking it up. Which makes it especially frustrating that you can't do the same for meals out of crocks in inventory. been loving the series, even if I haven't been able to catch a stream yet! Always enjoy Vintage Story from you.

I think you said a while back that the dev is considering working on transportation, including carts to let us transport more stuff around. Maybe there could be something in that to enhance the glider: it's possible that there are limitations right now that mean it's actually doing the best that it can just to let you fly a bit! Can you place the extra copies of the schematic on your desk, to make it look like you're doing your paperwork? *ETA* : it should be remembered that the Wright Brothers' first flight was less than half the wingspan of a 747. So if they had started their flight on top of the fuselage they would not have cleared either wingtip…in that context you didn't actually do half badly 🤣
@Kurazarrh9 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I'm hoping to see more with the glider soon, to make it actually useful to keep around rather than just a novelty. To answer your question, I believe you can place it back down! :)

Thank you for filling the gap on the very niche category of "actually enjoyable to watch lets plays of the UP TO DATE sunless sea". I was hurting for some of that for so long because I love the setting and have finished it before a bunch of times, but replaying it is kind of fatiguing. Its wonderful watching someone who knows what they are doing but isn't exploiting the game. This and your starsector playthrough were top notch and I hope you go back to Starsector at some point.
@Kurazarrh13 сағат бұрын
Hey, thank you so much for letting me know how much you liked these series! Sunless Sea does have eternal replayability but it does get repetitive, and when you lose a captain (to, say... Mirrorcatch Boxes full of sunlight... not that I have any experience with that, ahem) unexpectedly, it can be a real bummer. I'm not the kind of person who "enjoys failing," especially since my gaming time is much more limited than it used to be. I'm hoping to get back to Starsector again soon! I was hoping to wait until Alex released the next version of the game, but I have no inkling when that might be. So I might just bite the bullet and record something in the near-ish future. Only time will tell!

Not gonna lie, I kind of miss the unique editing style you had going (that windows joke in Guide Season 2 was inspired), but I'm thrilled that you're not leaving behind your audience with unfortunately short attention spans in your foray into livestreaming.
@Kurazarrh13 сағат бұрын
Hah, I love how much of an impression the Windows Easter Egg made on you. I was originally going to do just the first livestream, and then record and edit the rest of the series like I did for the Guides, but folks liked the new format. Unfortunately, I don't think these recordings would edit down very well into episodes, unless I also overdubbed them with new lines and descriptions, due to the more conversational nature of what I say here. And, equally unfortunately, I just don't have enough time in the day to do that! lol However, I AM planning to do at least one more Guide series in the future, after Desert Life ends. I'm hoping to start it up when 1.21 comes out, unless we're still in the thick of things in this series, in which case it may wait until 1.22. That series will go back to the previous format you enjoyed so much! :)

Cassava has to be soaked in water for 24 hours in Vintage Story, and then you have to use it quickly, or it dries out. Which is also fine, because you can grind it into flour, but then it only satisfies the grain nutrition bar. But soaking it requires a barrel, which means we have to at least get a copper saw to make boards. So in the very early game, cassava is pretty useless, unfortunately!

Traders that spawn in camps usually have 2 or 3 that spawn outside their carts, and they can move around, though they stay within a set distance from their point of origin. Finally I'm in the right state of mind to be able to ask this very important question: Does loose flint and regular stone respawn? And does loose flint indicate surface flint mine like other loose mineral stones? Anyways, I see that your Cacti Injustice just went up another level. So I strongly suggest making another cacti shrine around the base to prevent bad things from happening.
@KurazarrhКүн бұрын
As far as respawning, no. Loose flint, stones, sticks, flowers, and so on do not respawn (grass will regrow / grow new grass on fresh dirt blocks), but that's it. However, the answer to your second question is yes! Finding surface flint means there is flint in the rocks close to the surface, under 10 blocks deep or so.

Mannnn...I'm a DM that doesn't shy away from killing characters, but it really depends on the game. I've tried running permanent injuries, which can trigger players more, but trying to wipe the party isn't the answer and you better be ready if your hand is forced to do so. I've done that one time, but it was just not going their way. I went ahead and reduced Max HP, they lost some items and whatnot, and a follower/pet was killed. There's sooooo many better ways to handle it.
@Kurazarrh2 күн бұрын
Yeah, players (myself included) don't generally enjoy when their characters are permanently altered without their permission and without a reasonably accessible means of reversing it. Character loses an arm, and the party cleric casts Regenerate? Ok, fine. Character loses an arm at level 3, and the DM says that they can't find anyone in a huge city they can pay to cast Regenerate? Complete BS.
@locustsun2 күн бұрын
As a player, I love when I have to adapt to how the environment affects me, not where I’m immune and I affect the environment greatly with every step. But, if you don’t leave an avenue for players to get better, then it’s just a pain. The problem is, I’ve had players who quit at the slightest hint of adversity. They get knocked out or captured and throw absolute fits. Players need to learn to accept certain things and maybe voice their displeasure at a certain aspect rather than just yell and quit (literally the vast majority of problem players I have).

Months late, but I thought of an easy way to chisel glass and ice. Mock up the design in something that's easily replaced next to your actual design. I love the way you add to your build piece by piece. And every time it gets better. Somehow I lack this ability. But I can't grasp it. There's something wrong with my 3d imagination, I know that for a long time. That's not my strong suit. But there's something else. I can feel things, very vividly, and I can describe them verbally. But I don't see them in my mind as a picture. And I can't paint what I can't see. It's strange to have a disability like that as a creative. Sometimes I can overcome this, and it really shows. But I never found out why. Watching and learning helps, and I always admire people like you who can do so easily what I lack. But one can always hope. One day the knot will disappear and I will build the most dreamlike building, just like I dreamed it - without ever really seeing it. And I like the collective mind the chat provides. It gives you ideas. Balls to juggle. It's like a hive mind. Many people are afraid of that, but I like it. What else is a brain storming? Let go und juggle with collective balls. I love that, it creates the best ideas. Where am I today? My brain is astray.

Oh snap man... I just noticed that you have a MAJOR issue with the Ebony changes you made to the farms... rabbits can totally get up in there, they can hop up on the gravel and then onto the top of the 2 Ebony logs and blam your garden is screwed... Then again I don't know if you'll even have rabbit spawns anywhere near your area... even still that's "an open door" for anything to get past the fencing and into those protected areas. It might not be a bad idea to either raise all the fences up 1 and go across the Ebony logs, or make the fences goofy and go over the logs but not raised up all the way around... or toss a simple Slab or slab+ sized decorative spike/dome on top the logs to prevent anything from jumping in.
@Kurazarrh3 күн бұрын
Was gonna say... it's an easily-fixable issue. But I'm glad you noticed!
@SnyperMK2000JclL3 күн бұрын
Imo that "can't put a path here and I'm not moving the wall out 1 block" is a perfectly valid time/excuse to hop into creative for 30seconds to spruce things up around the traders area. I know it's slightly cheaty but I have done that a number of times to remove rogue bushes and crap from inside the trader camps(mod) or close to the solo traders. I died a couple times to a stupid wolf simply because of the damn bushes everywhere covering the entire trader camp. Thats when I decided it was OK to go into creative from time to time to do some "spring cleaning"... so if you use it VERY sparingly and only for very specific things like fixing pools of water or cleaning up trader areas I personally say it's ok. A few other VSers I watch will occasionally use creative to fix things it's nearly impossible to do in survival, usually just the 2 things I listed above or maybe installing some teleporter blocks for specific connections after some "challenge" was completed and "used resources" were sacrificed when back in survival if anything was used, ie throwing away 20 gravel after putting in the path in creative so it feels less cheaty.

Fish and shellfish are actually standard foods in ancient seashore civilizations and the specialized vitamins received by eating seafood, are one of the reasons why modern countries that have decent sized coastal regions are listed higher on the life expectancy charts. And it's because of the mounds and mounds of seafood shells littering midden piles over thousands of years that we've realized they're another source of lime.

They also let light through so they look amazing as an outside awning/pergola roof just without the cross-hatching.

I suspect the advantage of terra preta is that it has enough nutrients that you can replant immediately without letting it lie fallow. That way you can get two harvests a year from the same soil. Or am i wrong?
@Kurazarrh3 күн бұрын
That really depends on what you're planting. If you're planting flax, or anything else that requires around 50 nutrients per harvest, while you CAN get away with a double planting, it means you're also going to have to let it lie fallow / plant other crops that much longer. You're always better off rotating crops, though crops that use very little nutrients and have long growth times (parsnips, pineapples, amaranth), you can get away with 2 or even 3 harvests sometimes!

Lol my suggestion was used... the trimming back of the gardens stairs... ive fallen in absolute love with the VS chiseling system as it allows for very tiny and out of the way steps that dont stop you from easily walking around. So much better than MC where everything is hella tricky to tuck away as everythig is bulky. Like my smithing area, its attached to my house outside connected to the kitchens chimney. Backing my forges into the same chimney system for esthetics sake. Its about a 6x7 area with upside down stairs around the walls acting as ingot/mold tables, however because of this i didnt want the walls to be huge and bulky thus making my forge area look bulky and blocky. So i made a bunch of single voxel thick "walls" to keep the forging area look thin and yet still allow for mold racks and lanterns to attach to the "walls". It looks fantastic because of all the depth compared to the fence posts holding up the stick mat awning. So i thought why not trim back stairs to as small as possible while still allowing you to walk up without jumping. Its made so many areas feel far less cramped as the steps are small little "bricks" sticking out to step up on.

We gave two games going right now (we play one when the whole group can't make it to the main game). The main game is XP-based, but the other game, we level up every three adventures (each adventure is meant to be a one-shot since we don't play it very often). Personally, and probably because I'm just so used to 3.5 (the version we play), I prefer regular XP, with adjustments for characters who fall behind in level. There are things that can permanently remove levels of you don't get them treated right away! But I'm at the point where I hardly see the numbers anymore and can generally gauge how many challenges will lead to a level-up, and design an adventure around that. Also my players like to have that feeling of progression of inching toward the next level, even if it is meaningless!

If you just want time to physically pass slower, you can do a "/time speed n" command (replace "n" with a number less than 60; set to 60 for normal speed). But that affects everything, including how fast particles decay and so on. If you want to have longer days, months, or years, you'll need to take a look at the Vintage Story wiki, as those are commands I've never tinkered with.
