What model/ year tacoma did you use for the donor engine? I know some 5vz are easier to swap into these trucks. Have an 89 myself and my 3.0 is still running but trying to plan ahead

I'm about to rebuild 2 R150F boxes and it will be my first time rebuilding a gearbox, any advice? It's for my first car and any help i can get will be appreciated.

Hot tip to those that find the shift shafts and keys a bit confusing....You can remove main shaft and counter shaft/5th gear by taking out the shift fork bolts and any "C" clips in the way and slide the forks off the shift shafts with the main shaft/gears leaving all the shift shafts/balls where they are...rebuild and assemble in reveres...helps to have 2 sets of hands....NOTE...secure the reverse shift head so it doesnt slide off its shaft( temp reinstall 5th fork) small ball inside dont lose!! Note 2....you will be leaving old oil around the shafts and shift balls...just remove the indent balls and flush out with a crap load of brake cleaner and compressed air...let dry...insert some clean oil. FYI...if you ever get stuck in reveres and stick shift is in neutral....just remove reveres shift light switch( pass. side of trans and push the shift fork to the rear....Stuck in reveres happens when the trans is out of truck and set down bell housing down a bit to hard and reveres gear falls forward or you hit something driving in neutral.....

I drive the s#*t out of mine too. I've scared many a passerby with no muffler. Now it needs pretty much a full rebuild. Gonna just have a transmission specialists fix mine. Or buy another one to swap in.

I've got a complete transmission R150, with transfer case 88-96 for Toyotas' pickup T100, and 4runners if anyone is looking for one works great inquire message me, we sold our T100 had it as spare transmission no longer need it as we sold the T100, and bought newer Tacoma 4x4. These transmissions are pretty bullet proof as long as you change your fluids frequently, keeps moisture from building up which can cause problems, rust internally on bearing surfaces.

Just had my transmission rebuilt and im still having an issue. When driving 10-15mph, in gear (most audible in Second gear) , once i press the clutch pedal to the floor, i hear a rattling sound.... Only while in gear, if i shift to neutral is stops... shift to second gear, it starts again, release the clutch and accellerate it completly stops.... they had mentioned while i was checking up on the repair that they were having trouble finding parts and mention the shift fork.... im wondering if they were not able to find the part and put it back together anyway, could you imagine these symptoms being anything els??? Thanks much appreciated!
